Yaritza and Elbyn
We first met in high school, but it was not the typical boy meets girl love story. We barely even talked to each other during our first time meeting in our junior year of school. We had mutual friends and occasionally ate lunch together at the same table. It was a few months after our high school graduation, when I asked my friend, Brandon, to pick me up from a friend’s house. He jumped at the offer, and brought one of his friends along for the ride to help with directions to the place in the middle of nowhere. As I got in the car not realizing who was in the passenger seat. I sat there shy and quiet to Elbyn’s big smile. On the ride home, we had a great conversation (well, if you knew me, they did most of the talking) and ended up at Brandon’s apartment to watch a movie.
A few weeks later, Brandon was having a small get-together and invited a few friends, including Elbyn and me of course. Once we had seen each other, we spent most of the evening together and not really talking to many other people at the get-together. So we decided to exchange phone numbers and became good friends. Which was slowly began to form into a relationship. After several months of us being good friends, he decided that he wanted to form a relationship, but not with me. So, he found a girlfriend and I found a boyfriend, then slowly we began to drift apart. He did still text me and tried to call me, but I did not reply nor answer the phone.
A good year had past of us not speaking to one another. Then Brandon, who had invited me to all his get-togethers, but I never showed, asked me to come over once again. I was on the verge of ending my current relationship, so I decided it could be fun. I wore my best outfit, which made me stand out from all the others because everyone else was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. It wasn’t long from when I entered Brandon’s apartment that I noticed Elbyn sitting on the couch looking at me smiling once again. I casually, as best I could, walked into the rooms and greeted Brandon and met some new people along the way. Not too long after that, Elbyn began to talk to me. Again, we had a good conversation forgetting the people that surrounded us and we picked up right where we left off, as if that year we stopped talking never existed. We have been together ever since.
Four years into the relationship on April 2,2010 Elbyn Proposed! We had both planned a relaxing weekend in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As we were walking around the city sight seeing I got tired and decided to sit down by the fountain in LOVE park. We sat there quietly relaxing and taking in the great sunny day. He reached for my hand and said “ We have been together now for 4 years and I feel that I want to be with you for a life time.” He slowly got down on one knee and pulled out the little white box. As he was looking into my eyes he asked, “ Will you marry me?” In shock I could not reply right away. So he had to ask again. After several seconds, or maybe minutes, I finally said yes. With a big sigh of relief Elbyn took the ring out of the box and slid it onto my finger. We spent the rest of the night calling friends and family to tell them the fantastic news that we are now engaged.
