Yadie and Connor
How We Met
Connor and I met when we were fourteen years old. We were just freshmen in high school, young and naive. We had a lot of mutual friends, but for some reason we never encountered each other. Unbeknownst to me, our chance to meet had vanished when he switched schools the second semester of freshman year. At the time, my girlfriend was always bugging me to talk to this guy, Connor, who was friends with her boyfriend. Not interested at all, I refused every single time she asked me. Then one day, out of the blue, I get a message from Connor on Myspace. We started talking and didn’t stop for two weeks straight.
And so began the late night phone calls that lasted until the next morning, texting during class, and video chats. I was head over heels for him, so imagine my excitement when he asked me to go to see a movie with him. Our relationship took off from there. We were there for each others sweet 16’s, driver’s licenses, high school graduations, and so much more. We really grew up with each other and saw each other through the toughest times in life. Senior year of high school, my world was turned upside down when my family found out my dad was diagnosed with cancer. It was the hardest year I’d ever endured and Connor was there for me every step of the way. This was when I knew Connor was the man I wanted to be with for the rest of my life. During the last six years, our relationship has been nothing short of amazing. I love him more today than I did when I first met him.
How He Asked
Connor has a made it a tradition to make my new year’s eve’s incredible. NYE 2014, he surprised me with a trip to New York with our best friends to watch the ball drop. It was a magical trip. I wasn’t sure he could ever top that gift, but he did NYE 2015. We wanted to have a laid back new years eve in Seattle. We planned to go on the ferris wheel and have dinner on the pier. When I told my friends, everyone kept asking me if he was going to propose. Having the talk with Connor before, I was absolutely certain he wouldn’t propose.
When we arrived in Seattle, we walked along the pier and I looked up at the wheel, which was all lit up and beautiful. I didn’t know, but Connor had already paid for VIP tickets. We got to go to the very front of line and waited for our very own booth with a glass bottom. We got into our booth and the view of the city all lit up in the night sky was breathtaking. I immediately started taking videos and pictures of us. While I was figuring out videos on my phone, Connor turns to me, pulls out a ring and says “will you marry me?”
I bawled my eyes out. I didn’t even respond right away. I was in total shock. I finally realized what was going on and said yes. The entire ride, I couldn’t stop crying and smiling. I probably looked insane to the people working the wheel.
