Jessica and Joseph's Walking Bridge Proposal in Louisville
How We Met: We met on New Years Eve 2011/2012 in a bar in my local college town of Lexington, KY. I was a nursing student at the University of Kentucky, and he was a student at the University of Louisville who had begun his college career at UK but later transferred to UofL. He decided to come to Lexington that night with friends who still attended UK to celebrate. The way this bar is set up there is an area that is elevated above the bar where you can sit/stand/dance that is in the center of the bar. I was up there with a few friends and had my eye on the front door checking out a group of people coming into the bar to see if I knew them. I did not recognize any of them but I noticed a guy who I thought was extremely attractive (it was Joe). I just had to get off the elevated area to head towards the dance floor, which is where he was walking towards. As I am attempting to jump down, I wipe out completely in a puddle of what I hoped was just beer. I sat there laughing at myself for a few seconds, when I heard a guy standing above me asking if I needed help up. I looked up to find it was the cute guy I was trying to get to in the first place. Once I got up, we danced and talked all night. This night led to us dating for 2 1/2 years.
How He Asked: There is a bridge in downtown Louisville that you can walk across the Ohio River all the way to Indiana, it is about a mile long. It has a beautiful view of downtown Louisville from the top. Joe told me he wanted to get professional pictures done for his son, and he really wanted to do them down by the river and suggested the bridge. As a female I got very invested in this little project and started looking at little boy photo ideas for him. I even went as far as buying little outfits and some props. I also tried to have him change the location of the photo shoot but he shot my idea for that down. Little did I know, he had a completely different plan. He told me we were going to the Indiana side of the bridge, that way we had a better view of Louisville. We brought my mom along to help us with his son as well (she was in on the surprise the entire time). We started taking pics of his son down at the bottom of the bridge in his special outfit, then we changed him so he would match the two of us because we wanted to do some family shots. Joe said he wanted the family shots on the top of the bridge so we walked up the big staircase to reach the top. Once we got set up there, his son was bored with the photo shoot idea so I figured we were going to rap up. He kept insisting that we keep taking pictures, so we were repeating the same photo over and over. I was confused but went with it because he was the one paying for the pictures. He then informs me to turn around and walk a little further back for a different shot, as I do this I see a big group of people and I stop, completely shocked when I realize it is my family, his family and a TON of our friends. I get so confused, and then he drops to his knee. It was the ultimate surprise. It was everything I wanted, he captured it all on video and had the photographer capture it all. Obviously I said YESSS!!! (in the first photo look behind us and you can see the group approaching us from the Louisville side of the bridge, I am completely clueless).
