Victoria and Tyler

How We Met

Tyler and I first met back in 2014 when I first attended college at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. We became friends through mutual friends. Then one day while he was at the gym before baseball practice I was trying to find the athletic trainers office to get signed into a class, I guess I looked like a lost freshman because he stopped and asked if I needed any help finding something. He walked me down to her office and waited there until I was finished to walk me back upstairs. As I was leaving the gym he asked if I wanted to hang out sometime. I was so nervous/excited/trying to play it cool I said “Yeah just text me” and left. Well, I forgot to give him my number so I had to DM him on Twitter. Since then, we became friends and always supporting each other throughout school for years to come.

There was always a spark in the air, but not much ever happened because we were both so busy with our sports and school work we did not have much time for a love life. My friends and I have always been a fan of baseball, we would be at every home game cheering on the team and he always noticed when I was or was not at the games. We continued to motivate one another to be the best we could be whether it was with our team, in the gym, within ourselves, or with our faith. Tyler was the president of a club called Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) on campus, and he asked me if I wanted to come out and bring as many people as I could to the meeting. After that one night, I continually went to every meeting and we grew our faith stronger together.

February 14, 2017, was just a normal Valentine’s day for others, but for me, this was the happiest day because Tyler asked me out. Later that day we went to Walmart to get one of his favorite movies “Bleed For This” and he got me flowers. I could not have been happier. After 3 years of being each others support system and best friends we knew we would never find anyone else in this world that would understand us and make us as happy as we make each other. We will continue to lift one another up, love unconditionally,  and always put God first in our marriage.

How He Asked

Tyler and I always talked about marriage from the moment we started dating. It was that feeling that you knew you could never do life with anyone else. Probably 6 months into dating we were already ring browsing to get a feel as to what was out there and how much rings cost. Many people found it strange that I had a say in my ring, but it only made it easier for him because then he knew it would be my dream ring. After months and months of looking around, I fell in love with a ring at Kranchis in the mall at Johnstown. It had all the shine and beauty I was looking for. I knew it was the one.

Months later, Tyler asked me to go to Mt. Washington lookout because he has never been there before (he actually has), so we made plans to go when we were at my house. Saturday, March 3, 2018, about 40 degrees out and very windy, we drove to Mt. Washington and got out of the car to look at the beautiful city of Pittsburgh. We went to one overview which was pretty crowded and he suggested to go to the one where it was less crowded. We arrived at the second overview where we were just staring at the city and that is when he got down on one knee and popped the question. Little did I know he had a hidden photographer (who was a good family friend) capturing the moment. I cried and of course, said yes! We got many photos taken afterward that will be memories to last a lifetime. I found out later my whole family knew and my best friends from school Sarah Francowic and Haley Knepp were in on it as well. It was an unforgettable day and I can not be more excited to be Mrs. Black!
