Victoria and Daniel
How We Met
Daniel and I met our sophomore year of college while he was playing baseball at The University of Georgia and I was 900 miles away at Texas A&M University. Daniel makes a yearly hunting trip to a tiny town outside of College Station, TX (home of Texas A&M) with his best friend Mason, who’s father lives there, and happened to swing by a New Years Eve party in my hometown of Columbus, TX. I was not present at this New Year’s Eve party but luckily my parents were! They met Daniel and loved him! So, the next day my mom recommend that I meet up with this “UGA baseball player” because, “he was so sweet”! Naturally, I said absolutely not, mainly because I was coming out of a bad relationship and who wanted a long distance relationship anyways?! About 6 months went by and my parents STILL talked about this guy! So, I finally reached out to him on Twitter! (YES I made the first move!!) We got each others numbers and texted for about 5 more months until we met exactly one year after my parents met him….in the same spot(at the annual New Year’s Eve Party)! I packed my bags and transferred to The University of Georgia and the rest was history!

How He Asked
My parents, Daniel, my brother, and I were going to our favorite vacation spot, Harbour Island, Bahamas for a summer vacation on June 22nd, 2016. This travel day was absolutely awful for three reasons:
1. Wade (my brother) MISSED our first flight out of Houston to Nassau. Which put him getting to the Bahamas the next day
2. Our plane from Nassau to the island got delayed 3 hours!! We were so ready to get there so my dad chartered a plane to get us.
3. We get to the charter airport and the plane was NOT as described, luckily we’re still alive!
Needless to say, it was the most stressful day ever and everyone was being so hot headed and rude, no one was getting along! Luckily, Wade got a different flight and we all arrived at the same time. As soon as we got to the island we had dinner reservations at 7pm at a restaurant I’ve ALWAYS wanted to try. We got to our hotel and everyone was rushing me (which I did not like). I wanted to get all nice for dinner but we only had 10 minutes to get there. That’s when everyone suggested that we hurry up and run to the beach beforehand to look at the sunset. I agreed. I didn’t have time to change but Daniel sure did… We get to the beach and he rushes me down to the water and grabbed my hand as we were walking. He kept saying, ” I love you!” I love you so much!” And I only replied ” love ya too” since I was so anxious about getting to dinner on time! I had noooo idea why we were at the beach since we were going to be here for 4 days?! Finally, he stops me as our feet barley hit the water and looked at me and said “I love you so much” and got down on one knee!!!
I started shaking because I had NO idea this would happen. He asked me to marry him and all I could say was, “Are you sure?!” I then looked at my parents and Wade who were watching from about 100 ft away, crying! As soon as I could get that three letter word out, I heard screaming coming from the beach. I thought to myself, “who are these crazy people?!” Then, out comes running Daniel’s step-mother (the photographer), his father, my oldest brother, and my sister in law. That’s when I completely lost it.
They had flown in to surprise me and were hiding in the bushes for about three hours! This is when everything started making sense: Wade missing his flight almost ruined everything, our flight being delayed almost made us miss the sunset for our proposal pictures, and everyone being so mean was because they were all so worried everything was ruined! It was the best night of my life and the best part was, was that I got to spend the rest of my vacation with my fiancé, his family, and my whole family. I can’t wait to marry the man of my dreams! If it wasn’t for that random New Years Eve party… :)
