Victoria and Anthony

How We Met

Anthony and I grew up in the same little town, Hawthorne, NY. We went to school together since first grade but never really interacted with one another. It was not until junior year of high school when we finally “spoke”. One of my close friends became close with one of his good friends. We decided to all hang out one night at our local shopping center. At the time, I was only 16 and dating someone for about a month (yes, this is where the story gets good). I was on my phone for most of the night but couldn’t help but think how cute Anthony was. I didn’t talk to him much that night but he did attempt to flirt with me. Lets just say, he had made a lasting impression on me so I ended it with my boyfriend at the time (sorry :/) and wanted to get to know Anthony a little more.

Every since that night, we started talking and hanging out more and more. I remember I would get the butterflies every time he would text me or comment on my facebook wall. This went on for a good 6 months and I was just waiting for the day that he’d ask me to be his girlfriend. It wasn’t until December 4th, 2009 when I had a few of my friends and him over to celebrate my 17th birthday. I definitely was not expecting anything that night because he was just laying on the couch and being to himself as he watched my friends and I act like obnoxious weirdos. As the night went on and as it got late, my friends started to leave. Anthony was the only one left. It was now around 11:30 and his mom or dad were over to pick him up. As we’re saying goodbye, he asked me to be his girlfriend. I obviously kept it cool and said yes and as soon as I shut the door, freaked OUT. I went straight on the computer and IM’ed all my friends to tell them that Anthony and I are boyfriend and girlfriend. I was the happiest 17 year old in the world.

How He Asked

At this point, Anthony and I have been together for 8 and a half years and just celebrated our half year together.

A month before, he texted me telling me that he wanted to take me out to celebrate my first year of teaching. I can’t lie, but I was a little suspicious. This whole month, I’ve been going back and forth thinking it was going to happen. Then the day finally came and he told me to get my nails done. I texted my best friend right away and we both started freaking out. The whole day her and I were trying to calm each other down plus I didn’t want to get my hopes up if he really was just taking me out to celebrate!

Finally 5:00 came around and he was on his way to pick me up (at this point I had no idea where we were going still). 1 and a half hours later, we were still in he car on our way to the restaurant (still no clue where we were going). Finally we arrived in DUMBO Brooklyn and pulled up to the garage to park. It was a 5 minute walk to the restaurant. This whole time he seemed so relaxed and calm that I really didn’t believe anything was going to happen. We got to the restaurant which was right by the water overlooking the NYC skyline and the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge. It was breathtaking and probably the nicest place I’ve ever been to. For some reason, in that moment, I had a feeling that I wasn’t going to get proposed to that night. But little did I know, I was so wrong.

After dinner, he told me that he had reservations for 9:00 at another place for drinks. So at around 8:50, we got the check and left. I told him we HAD to take a picture first by the water. He told me theres a certain spot that he saw that would be a good place for a picture. I really didn’t think of anything and just followed him and let him lead the way. As were walking, were getting closer to the spot but I was just taking the view all in. Then I see candles on the ground shaped like heart. He goes, “Oh wow, what’s this? Step inside.”

I immediately dropped everything I had and starting shaking. He began talking to me and told me this was it. I honestly could not even tell you what else he said because I was FREAKING OUT. Then I see people taking pictures of us. I lost it. My mind was going crazy. I thought I would break down and cry but there were so many emotions going through me. Even though I had a feeling that day would be the day, I was still in so much shock. That was it. I was finally going to start the next chapter of my life with my boyfriend and best friend of 8 and a half years. I am the luckiest girl in the world. I love you so much Anthony!!!!
