Tori and Kyle

How We Met: Kyle and I met in August of 2012 when he moved to St George, Ut for his internship with Southland Bible Church, which was the church I was attending. He immediately caught my attention because he was so cute. We grew closer and our friendship developed as we both worked with the Young Adult and College aged Bible study group. Once we got to the point of considering a serious dating relationship, I sent him the song, “Begin Again” by Taylor Swift. Throughout his internship he spent a lot of time at Starbucks, and I told him that I always wanted to run into him there and follow the lyrics of the song, “On a Wednesday, in a cafe, I watched it (love) begin again”, so after asking my Mom and Step-Dad, and my Dad, he asked me to meet him at Starbucks one day (which happened to be a Wednesday) before I had to work, and he asked me to officially be his girlfriend.

How He Asked: When we started dating, I told him I didn’t want to get married or engaged before I graduated college (May 2015), so as soon as I graduated, we began talking about it and planning. We had talked about a particular restaurant in town that has a balcony that overlooks the city. We thought it would be cool to have our ceremony at sunrise on the balcony, so we could have the sunrise in the background. Since we had been talking and planning for two months, an actual proposal seemed unnecessary to me, so we scheduled our engagement photo shoot, and I assumed that would be the point when we become officially “engaged”, and I would start wearing the ring. A week before that, Kyle said we should go up to the restaurant to watch the sunrise, which we had done before several times. He said he was going to set up his camera and take a time-lapse of the sunrise, so when I got there, he had cleared away the chairs and tables on the patio and had his camera set up. We sat and enjoyed the sun rising as Kyle shared his heartfelt sentiments. In the midst of a beautiful sunrise, he got on his knee and asked me to marry him, to which I obviously said yes. We then danced on the patio to the song “The Girl” by City and Colour. His “time-lapse” was actually him videoing the proposal with the most beautiful backdrop.

Afterward I learned that he had bought the ring almost two months earlier, and I had no idea. He had shared with several of our friends and family that he planned to propose. The thing I was most impressed about was the fact that he had managed to keep the whole thing a secret for so long!
