Tommy and Peter's Incredibly Sweet Mutual Marriage Proposal

How We Met: Peter and I met at a housewarming party of one of our mutual friends in the West Village. It was a chilly November night in 2012 and an unexplainable magnetic connection brought us together. Peter walked in the door and I b-lined to him. After some awkward small talk and an exchange of numbers I left to go to another party with my friend,Iga. In the cab leaving, I told Iga, “I’m gonna marry that guy.” And, well…here we are ;)

How He Asked (Tommy’s version): April 23rd, 2015 was turning out to be a beautiful, fairly normal day. I got up at 6:30AM to go for a run in our neighborhood because I’m one of those crazy morning people. On my way back to our apartment in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn I was filled with thoughts of how much I love Peter and how I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him; how sweet he’d look sleeping when I got home and how something in the air felt “right.” It was one of those moments where life takes you by surprise and completely out of your self, then propels you into a hyper-sensitized, focused, dream-like state of being effortlessly present. I turned the key into our front door and began my three-story hike to apartment 3A – my ring for him was in my bedside table and I knew he had a ring for me in his. I walked in our door, dropped my phone on the counter, and started down the hallway towards our bedroom. I found Peter sound asleep in the morning rays, bundled under a white comforter with a little bit of drool on his cheek. I slipped in bed next to him, woke him up with sweet kisses, and without saying a word we both knew what we were going to do. Simultaneously, we opened our drawers and took out our respective ring boxes. I told him how much I love him, how I want to spend the rest of our lives together, I asked him to marry me. He said yes. I slid the gold ring I purchased from Mociun on his ring finger.

Peter adorably jumped out of bed, still naked, and got on one knee asking me to be his hubby. I cried and laughed a lot and then we went downstairs to our favorite café and had some celebratory breakfast. The rest is history.

How He Asked (Peter’s Version): I was in that sort-of-asleep / sort-of-awake state when I heard the pitter-patter of feet coming from the front of the apartment. I laid in bed, nowhere near committed to getting up, at that point. Then Tommy barged in. He had a big smile on his face and jumped into bed with an energized and giddy glow. He wrapped his arms around me and snuggled as I transitioned from my twilight state into a full awareness. As I stretched and yawned, I returned the snuggles. We spent a while hugging, kissing, and looking at each other. Evidence would suggest that we both felt that was the moment. We were already aware that each of us had procured a ring on our own. We simultaneously reach back to our night stands, took the ring boxes out, and held them in our hands. Still on the bed, staring at each other, we uttered some words of love, then opened the ring boxes, both inquiring if the other would grant the honor of marriage. We both happily agreed! But, while beginning to move the ring toward Tommy’s finger, I realized that I might want to look back and remember actually ‘getting on one knee’. So I leapt out of bed, still in the buff, ran around to his side, and got on one knee; slipped the ring on his finger (after he approved my request for marriage); the rest is history.
