Tiana and Alex

How We Met

Born in France and raised in the States, Alex was moved across Country into my hometown due to work. Born and raised in Vancouver, I had yet to meet a “mr. charming” and truly believed he didn’t exist. Not wanting to settle for “good enough”, I wrote a detailed list of all the qualities I would need in a partner; and because I believed someone so amazing couldn’t exist- I had accepted I would probably never settle down. Later that year, I wanted to focus on myself and went out salsa dancing. Of course, the first night I go out hoping to focus on myself, life places Alex right in front of me! We had a dance and felt an immediate connection. Fast forward a few weeks and I came to realize that Alex checked off all of the qualities on my list, and more! 1.5 years later, we were having a big family and friends dinner on Saturday, and Alex had asked me to dress up for a brunch at our first date spot before going to the dinner.

I had a hunch he would propose at our first date spot that day and told my parents, who were in on the surprise proposal. They insisted I was being crazy and that this was a “fake out” proposal.

After having brunch with no proposal, I was 110% certain it was not happening anytime soon. We left together for the family dinner and when we arrived, Alex told me he needed to take a call and for me to go on inside. What I didn’t know, is that the second I stepped inside, Alex grabbed the ring and ran around the back of the house onto the porch that he had decorated. I walked into the house with all my loved ones there telling me that I’m in trouble and that I need to go look outside. Mortified and confused I was led to the backyard door which was covered in blinds. I opened the door to Alex on one knee, holding a bright blue box, underneath christmas lights, and my sister holding her camera. Crying too hard to even move, my family practically had to yell at me to go outside! I collapsed on to Alex and my first words were “you faked out the fake out!”

iThe doors closed behind us, allowing for a private proposal moment, before we headed back inside to celebrate with everyone else.I later found out that he had taken my parents to lunch months ago to officially ask for my hand and that he had been ring shopping and planning the proposal since then!
