Thomas and Sara
How We Met
Sara and I met in University in September 2015. We we’re both in the same program at school taking Marketing. Being that it was the first day of school, there were a lot of new faces and I wanted to get to know my classmates. The classroom was set up with 4 large tables, and Sara and I were sitting at the one table beside one another. She brought a bag of veggies as a snack and to break the ice she offered some to the people sitting at the table. No one wanted any, but I piped up and said “absolutely”, and then followed with “Are you going to bring snacks to class everyday?”. She laughed, and I knew I wanted to get to know her better.
We quickly became good friends and we would flirt with one another quite often. After a month of hanging out, I asked her out on a date and we were boyfriend and girlfriend right then. We fell in love with one another and we’re still madly in love with one another almost 3 years later.
How He Asked
Sara and I were in Paris, France on vacation and I had this plan to ask her at the base of the Eiffel Tower. As we were approaching the tower, my heart started to beat quite quickly and I was getting anxious. I had the ring in my jacket in backpack, so I was thinking of a way I could distract Sara in order to get the ring in my shorts pocket so I could take it out when I was going to propose to her. It was a very hot day, and we drank all of our water in our water bottle. Sara found a water fountain and offered to go fill up our bottle. This was my chance to grab then ring. She went over, and I quickly took off my backpack to grab the ring. I was starting to shake a bit, and before I knew it, she was walking back with a full bottle of water. I was so close to getting the ring, but had to stop when she got back. We took some big gulps and then she said “I’ll go back to fill it up again for later”. When she went back, I finally managed to get the ring and had it right where I wanted it.
We sat down at this beautiful spot looking at the Eiffel Tower and the sight was unbelievable. As we were sitting, I overheard these two guys behind me speaking English and sounded like they were really good with their camera. I thought to myself, that’s the people I want taking the video of the proposal. I told Sara that we should get a photo and I’ll go ask those guys behind us. I walked up to one of the guys and asked if he could take a picture of us. He agreed, and I handed him my phone, but told him that I had it on video and to keep the video going! I walked back to Sara, put my arm around around, kissed her and I said “Sara, you are the best thing that’s ever happened in my life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you”, got down on one knee and popped the question!
I really lucked out in the person who took the video for our proposal. As soon as he knew what was going on, he started taking a bunch of photos while the video was still going.
It was the greatest moment of life to date, and we will always cherish those memories forever!
