Teresa and Nick
How We Met
It was the summer of 2014 that changed my life forever. My friends and I had recently moved into our 2 room shore shack. Five girls in Belmar, NJ without a care in the world….or so I thought. Our daily routine consisted of beach talks, bronzing, and happy hour at our favorite spot: D’Jais. D’Jais is not exactly the most romantic setting in the world. It’s usually referred to as the “black hole.” Music blasting, flashing lights, and green walls.
As my friends and I gathered around the main bar, I noticed that the guy standing next to me looked vaguely familiar. Then it hit me! This was the guy that I had met in Hoboken a few months earlier. He had tried to get in contact with me, but wasn’t very successful. As I stood there, I gathered the confidence to spark up a conversation. We hit it off right away and I knew there was something different about him.
For years I had asked God to lead and guide me to the man He had created and designed specially for me. Even in the most random of places, God led me to Nick, the man that I will spend the rest of my life with. I am forever grateful for answered prayer!
How He Asked
Sunday, May 22, 2016. About 2 months ago, Nick had mentioned that he was planning a “Welcome Back” party for his boss who just had twin girls. Everyone from his sales team was going to Calandra’s in Caldwell, NJ to celebrate. On our way to the party, his boss texted him and said she was running late. Ironically we were passing Verona Park at the same time. My sister, who is getting married in September, will be taking her wedding photos there and is in need of a photography permit. We decided to stop by to find out some more information for her.
As we walked through the park, Nick pretended to propose two times. He has been doing this ever since we started dating. He makes it seem as if he’s going down on a knee, and then follows it by saying, “You wish!” I just rolled my eyes and continued walking.
Unfortunately, no one was available to give us any information on the photography permit, so we continued to walk back to the car. Just then, Nick turned me around. This time he had a serious look on his face and I started to get nervous. I only remember him saying, “Teresa, I love you with all my heart….” and that’s about it. I completely blacked out and immediately started to cry. The next thing I knew, he was down on one knee, holding a beautiful ring in his hand, asking me to marry him. Of course I said yes, and continued to cry some more. As I turned around, two photographers were snapping away and caught every special moment.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Nick surprised some more. As we entered Calandra’s, I expected to walk into a room full of Nick’s coworkers. Instead, I walked into a private room filled with the loving faces of our family members. All I could do was cry (once again)! The table was decorated with candy rings and tags that read ΅Congratulations Nick and Teresa!” The shelves were covered with a variety of picture frames that held all of the special moments Nick and I have shared throughout our relationship.
It is a day that I will never forget and the start to a brand new chapter in both of our lives.
