Taylor and Michael
How We Met
We met in 2004 when Michael was a sophomore in high school, and I was a freshman. We shared multiple mutual friends and mainly stayed in touch through them. While never dating in high school, we remained just friends. Michael graduated in 2007, and went off to college. We didn’t talk often, but would communicate enough just to keep up to date on what we were both doing. In 2012, Michaels best friend and my best friend got married. We were both in the wedding party which allowed us to reopen our friendship. Even though we lived 2,000 miles apart, we would occasionally meet up in our home town for a quick bite to eat, or a short hike. In 2014 we both moved back to our home town for career opportunities. Within a few months of moving back, he asked me to dinner. It only got better from there.
How He Asked
We live in Palm Desert, where summers can get up to 120 degrees during the day. We are getting close to those hot days, so we were hoping to catch a hike up in the mountains before it started getting to hot. I had Wednesday off, and Michael, owning a business was able to take the day. I suspected nothing, because day hikes were a normal thing for us. So, we packed a lunch, drinks, Michael Drone, and our dog. We drove about 45 minutes up into the mountain, parked and started our hike up to the ridge overlooking the Coachella valley. Over the next couple hours of hiking up a hill, we finally made it. Michael pulls out his drone and starts flying it around in hopes to get some cool pictures of us and scenery. While i’m laying down on a rock trying to catch a break, Michael programs his drone to circle us. I was fascinated by the drones cool feature to just circle us without anyone controlling it. Before I could even move, he was on one knee, asking me to marry him. I was in shock. Excitement took over and we just savored the moment.
