Wedding Proposal Ideas in The Pennsylvanian

How We Met

They say timing is everything. Joe was there all along, but it was all about timing for us and our story. We went to different high schools only 9 miles apart, mutual friends knew us separately, we knew of each other, and we met once or twice in passing. One summer evening and a mini-golf game later, a common interest in pursuing a career in law sparked such a beautiful friendship and partnership. While our story is delicate and sublime, we fought through years of long distance while attending different universities to get to where we are today. Both of us now reside happily in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and see each other’s smiling faces everyday walking the halls of Duquesne Law school where we are both graduate students.

Taylor and Joe's Engagement in The Pennsylvanian

How He Asked

Again, timing is everything. On April 21, 2017, I had absolutely no idea what was coming. I was a week away from completing my first year of law school and a proposal was the last thing I was expecting. It was blissful. It was perfect. It was a crisp and clear spring night in Pittsburgh where we spent the evening exploring the city we have grown to love. Joe and I placed a love lock on the Roberto Clemente Bridge commemorating the date that would be forever engrained in my memory. As we walked to The Pennsylvanian I became so chilly I asked for Joe’s jacket, only to receive a disappointing “no.” I would later find out why! Originally constructed in 1900 for use as Pittsburgh’s Union Station, The Pennsylvanian is considered one of the city’s most architecturally significant buildings. The handcrafted, dome-shaped rotunda at its entrance serves as a prominent symbol in Pittsburgh. It is truly stunning. As an Art History graduate, I was so distracted by the architectural beauty and lights, I didn’t even realize that Joe was reaching for the ring in his coat pocket and was down on one knee asking me to marry him! I couldn’t even get the word “yes” out because I was so shocked and overjoyed.
