Taylor and Daniel
How We Met
Dan and I met at church in Albany, New York. I was in my junior year of undergrad and Dan worked at the church as the worship leader. Although Dan won’t admit it, our first official date was at a Superbowl party that Dan invited me to. We hung out as friends for a while before Dan asked me to be his girlfriend on March 21, 2012. I knew he was the one the moment we hung out. I even remember telling my college roommates: “What if this is my last first date outfit?!” and they thought I was crazy. Throughout our relationship, Dan has always been my best friend and I knew someday, I wanted to marry him.
How He Asked
Fast forward to Christmas day of 2014. Dan asked my dad if he could marry me. Although Dan was in his batman pajamas, Dan received my dad’s blessing. Dan planned on proposing to me in Pittsburgh that next week (we were visiting his family for Christmas). On the night of the proposal, Dan and I went on a date night in downtown Pittsburgh. We went to an Italian restaurant, in Market Square, called Sienna Sulla Piazza. Of course, Dan could barely eat but it was the most delicious restaurant! After dinner, we went to the ice rink at PPG Place. In the middle of the ice rink was a huge Christmas tree! We skated for a while before Dan asked someone to take our picture in front of the tree. After taking the picture, Dan went to get the phone back but instead, he put the phone on video-mode so that the woman could take a video of the proposal. He told her “You’re gonna wanna get this.”
Dan came over to me, took out the ring, and got down on one knee (even on ice skates!). It was the most wonderful moment of my life! When I saw my ring, I bawled my eyes out. It was so sparkly with all the Christmas lights and reflection from the ice. It was so beautiful!
After he proposed, everyone started cheering and Dan and I got our first picture as an engaged couple!
We tried to skate around for a little bit more but we were both too excited to tell everyone. We went to a Starbucks down the road and called all our family and friends.
Since Dan’s parents and sister already knew he was proposing to me that night, it was fun going back home to see them and have them share in the excitement. It was by far the best night of my life!
