Taylor and Dalton
How We Met
We met our freshmen year of high school in August 2008. We had the same group of friends but never crossed paths besides having the same World Religions class. After graduating from the same high school we attended the same college. That is when the fireworks started. He would send me funny pictures of animals and I would do the same. A couple months had passed and we finally went on a date to go see a movie for my birthday. We both have a strong love for baseball and for my birthday he bought us tickets to go watch the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A’s later in the month! After that I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with him. He is the sweetest and most caring man I have ever met.
We have been together for three and a half years and they have been the greatest years. We have been through so many different challenges together. His family went through big changes this past year and I just lost my grandfather to cancer. With so many challenges and strains going on we were able to grow even more as individuals but as a couple as well. He truly is my rock. He has brought so much joy and happiness to my life. And if I could change one thing, it would have been going after him in high school so I could love him a little longer.
How He Asked
A few weeks before the proposal Dalton told me he won a “Behind the Scenes Tour” at Monterey Bay Aquarium. I love Sea Otters and he loves Penguins so it was a perfect getaway before our fall semester finals. His mom took me to get our nails done a few days before hand because she had never gotten her nails done professionally before. I truly thought that was the main reason. Turns out there was another reason behind it as well. On the day of the proposal we went and got some breakfast and began our drive to Monterey, CA. Once we arrived we got lunch at my favorite restaurant of all time, Bubba Gumps. We talked about our future and shared some laughs while eating our favorite meal.
We spent the rest of the day walking around the aquarium spending a majority of our time at the otter and penguin exhibits of course. Dalton was so calm the entire day and held his composure very well! Finally our tour time arrived and it started. We truly went ‘behind the scenes’ of the aquarium. Towards the end of the tour the tour guide asked if we were able to see any of the wild otters today and took us outside to take pictures. We took a few pictures and then the tour guide gave us a map to thank us for our visit. Then Dalton said “I have a confession. I didn’t win this tour”. And I knew what was coming next.
He turned the map around and it said “Will You Marry Me?”
The first words out of my mouth were “Did you ask my dad?!” Which of course he did. I said “Yes!”
And I was on cloud nine. Dalton had been in contact with Monterey Bay Aquarium for a few months planning the entire proposal. The tour guide was absolutely amazing and so sweet during and after.
She took all of the pictures for us and congratulated us. On our drive home he surprised me with dinner with his family to celebrate our engagement. It was a day I will always remember and cherish for the rest of our lives!
