Taylor and Blake
How We Met
My now fiancé, Blake and I are from the same town and have the same friends, but had never met one another. Blake joined to Marine Corps right after graduating high school, and I stayed in town and went to a local college. Anyway, Blake came home for leave over Thanksgiving/Christmas break in 2011. There was a concert downtown that night and I had invited everyone to come over to my house when it was over. Well, little did I know that my life was about to change forever. Blake walked in my front door and it was all over from there. I think that the first conversation we had was about sweet tarts and I told him that my favorite ones were the blue ones. So he picked them all out and gave them to me. As the night went on, he won me over again when he called me princess. The next night, we went to Steak ‘n Shake and he bought me a vanilla milkshake. That is when I knew he was the one I was going to marry.
We continued to keep in touch and hang out when he came home on leave, but it took a year or two for us to finally become official. On March 16, 2013, we decided enough was enough and became a permanent thing. It was the best decision we had ever made, and it has been one big adventure ever since.
How He Asked
On my birthday this year, Blake got me a handgun. I had been dying to go try it out since he gave it to me. However, Blake had gotten approved for a training course where he would be out of town one week, home the next, and then back to training one last week. During the week he had off, he had been working on some targets for us to go shooting. When he finally came back home from his training course, he told me to leave work early so we could go shoot my gun before it got dark. He picked me from work, and he was kind of dressed up to be going to shoot in the field, but he said that we would go meet my parents after for dinner. When we got to the field he had turned the car around so he could video me shooting my new gun. Which I didn’t think anything of it because we always video each other shooting. Anyway, He had this big target set up, Blake and I took one shot, and the target falls open saying “will you marry me?” I looked at him and he got down on one knee and said, “From the moment I met you, I knew I was going to marry you. Will you marry me?” I of course said yes! It was so perfect and so us. The next day, he created the most beautiful video of our proposal that could put anyone to tears. I cannot wait to marry this man. God could not have put a more perfect person in my life, and I am forever grateful.
