How We Met

I met my best friend Celena during my freshman year at college. Celena and her boyfriend Kyle both went to high school with Eric, who happened to be Kyle’s best friend. During the summer after our freshman year, Kyle and Celena introduced me to Eric. I was recovering from a recent breakup and was not looking for a relationship, but Eric had other plans. The four of us spent the summer together exploring waterfalls and rivers, hiking in the Columbia Gorge, swing dancing in Portland, and visiting the Oregon coast for Celena’s birthday. Eventually, after pursuing me for months, Eric asked me on a real date and I said yes. He was a true gentleman, opening all the doors and paying for my dinner and the movie. In the fall, Celena and I went back to school, but Eric and I continued talking and going on dates, eventually making it official at my favorite bookstore after a fun day of hiking in the rain and eating ice cream in Portland.

How He Asked

Eric and our good friend Amy, who is an incredible photographer, set up an elaborate plan for Eric to propose. The two of them worked together to fool me into thinking that we were doing a fun winter photoshoot for Amy’s portfolio. I had fun picking out the outfits and getting Eric spiffed up for the shoot. We spent the day at Mt. Hood, walking around in the snow, taking to pictures, and listening to music. Towards the end of our shoot, Amy told us she wanted to captures some candid reactions, so she told us she was going to take few shots of Eric walking up behind me and kissing me on the cheek, picking me up, etc., I just wouldn’t know exactly what he was going to do until he did it. Amy set up the shot and told Eric to go. He walked up behind me, put his hand on my shoulder, and walked around to face me. In my head I was thinking, “Well that was lame!” until I saw the letter in his hands.

Wintery Proposal Shoot

Eric and I had been talking about marriage for a bit, but earlier in the week he made it clear that he was not proposing during the photoshoot, so I wasn’t quite sure what was happening. As he shakily read the letter, I realized what was going on. He got down on one knee, asked me to marry him, and I said yes!
