How We Met
“Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite.”
As the duo behind White Elephant Events, a wedding planning and design company, we’ve certainly heard our fair share of engagement stories. And it’s true: each is beautiful and unique in their own way. But, if you’re looking for a story befitting the magical city that is New York- a quintessential, Carrie Bradshaw approved, swept away kind of story…then look no further.
By a strange twist of fate, Josh and I both found ourselves on the set of HBO’s “How To Make It In America” as perfect strangers. A former model, Josh occasionally did some extra work. I was just looking for something interesting to do instead of the tired Cinco De Mayo party (it was May 5th). From the moment I caught sight of him he had my undivided attention; in a non-obvious, I’m-totally-not-creepy kind of a way. However, it was more than his dashingly good looks that had me locked on. I had this feeling, somewhere in my stomach, that I had known him before. Perhaps in another life.
Turns out he had noticed me as well. And, when numbers were called to go on set (that evening it was the old Westway gentleman’s club), lucky me found myself right next to him. My hands were shaking as he introduced himself but we managed a conversation. The rest of the evening in between takes we talked and laughed and everyone thought we were a couple. If only…
When I saw my mom the next day I told her that I had met the man I was going to marry. “If I had a dollar…” she began to say.
How He Asked
Two months later, amidst the sultry, romantic candlelight of Gemma at The Bowery Hotel, Josh uttered those four eternal words. The proposal was perfectly New York- chic and spontaneous. With a gorgeous 6 carat yellow sapphire ring to seal the deal. We were married that October and for, our third anniversary, Josh surprised me with a new, three-stone diamond stunner.
“I knew you then. I know you now. I’ll love you forever.” He said.
I guess when you know, you know.
