Tanya and Griffin

I woke up on the morning of January 1st, after bringing in the new year. I was lying next to Griffin Lee, my boyfriend of 4 years, and told him, “I had a funny dream last night.” I went on to tell him that I dreamt he had asked me to marry him and he gave me a ring. While the ring covered my entire finger and was covered with drawing of ancient aliens, I was so excited I couldn’t reveal my true thoughts on the ring, and then I woke up. End of conversation.

That afternoon my best friend called to wish me a happy New Year and to see what my plans were for the rest of the weekend. I told her, “2012 is going to be a great year and Griffin wanted to go hiking in Sedona since we had the day off.”

Fast-forward to the next day, January 2nd, (mostly cause I wasn’t awake for much of Jan 1 except to watch the Giants beat the Cowboys to earn the last playoff spot). This morning I woke up well rested and griffin said lets grab quick breakfast and get on the road. Normally I have 20 questions and reasons to change the plan (like the Gators were playing Ohio state), but for some reason, I didn’t ask a thing and told griff to decide and I would do whatever he suggested. We arrived at Black mountain, which turned out to be Doe Mountain. As we got to the top of the wrong mountain, we realized that our planned 2.5 hour hike would turn out to be about one hour. I suggest we sit down to rest and pass some time before making our way back down.

As we are sitting I think to myself that I have to pee and wonder if that would be totally inappropriate (which I decided it would. I finally decided to speak up and tell griff that I was ready to go back down.

I turn to kiss griff and he swallows really hard (ruining the moment) and I see his jugular vein throbbing, a tear runs down, and he says, “Wait, I have something to ask you.” I am in shock. He takes off his camel back, pulls out a box, and got down on one knee.  I have never really thought about what it would feel like to be proposed to, I thought that only happened in fairy tales. Now I have my own fairy tale with the most special and inspiring person I know!

And here’s the ring!
