A surprise scavenger hunt proposal | Amit and Kinal

How we met: Amit and I first met in Aug 2007 when a couple of friends decided to go out for a drink. Amit immediately caught my eye. He was charming, sweet, and handsome. He had me with a smile and a hello. Over the next few of weeks we saw each other more and more around friends and flirted.

We started dating in October but unfortunately it didn’t last too long since I was heading overseas for school. So we decided to end it and remain friends but over the next couple of years we saw each other when I was home for the summer and we remained in contact.

In the summer of 2011 Amit started to have feelings for me again and decided to act on it by planning a trip to Amsterdam to meet with me during a planned vacation with my friends.

He asked me out officially and took me on an action packed date, which started with a lesson on how to make a Vesper Martini (the James Bond martini, and also my favorite drink). The bar itself was called Vesper and the bartender invited me behind the bar to show me how to make the drink while I followed along. After our drink, a car showed up outside and whisked us away to dinner. Dinner was at an Italian restaurant where the servers all either sang or played an instrument. After being serenaded over dinner, we went to a speakeasy bar and partied the night away! We have been together since December 2011.

How he asked: In December 2013 Amit took me to NYC (one of my favorite cities during Christmas time) on what I thought would be a quick getaway to get my cold fix, help my brother move back home, and visit a few friends. Little did I know he had a whole scavenger hunt planned out for me.

He had planned the scavenger hunt from movies that were set in NYC and took me around most of Manhattan in the rain! By the time we made our way to the last destination at the Rockefeller Center our coats, gloves, and my EMU boots were completely soaked through. We were greeted at the Rockefeller Center by some of the hotel staff from the Westin at Times Square (who were in on the hunt with Amit) along with a camera crew who we were told were doing publicity photos for the hotel. It turned out though that the Photographers were actually working for Paparazzi Proposals and were there to capture the lead up to the proposal and the proposal itself.

Upon our arrival, Miguel from the hotel thanked us for participating and told us we had won the hunt. I was ecstatic! He explained that our prize was a whole bunch of Starwood points but that we had the option of gambling the points in the hope of winning a mystery box gift that was as good as or better than the Starwood points.

Amit asked me to make the decision, and I chose the mystery box, still being absolutely clueless as to what was planned. We had to answer a question and on doing so correctly, Miguel then handed Amit the ring box. It was then that I finally realized what was going on! My family and friends then appeared out of nowhere and Amit dropped down on one knee for the most beautiful proposal I could have imagined. At that stage there was only one word I could say… YES!!
