Stephanie and Paul
How We Met
We met in the summer of 2014 on OkCupid. We chatted for a bit in the app before exchanging phone numbers. A few days later we met for a drink at the Red Door in Toluca Lake. We went on a few dates before I told Paul that I just wanted to be friends. I told him I was very busy. He always makes fun of me now because I am a teacher and I was actually on summer vacation when we met. We continued to hang out “as friends” and he quickly won me over with his witty sense of humor and contagious laugh. Anytime that I would remind him about us just being friends he would laugh and say that we’re going to end up together. And he was right.
Six months later I went back to New Jersey with him to meet his entire family for Christmas. They welcomed this California girl with open arms and they are so excited that we are getting married next summer!
How He Asked
This last summer we fulfilled Paul’s dream of visiting Italy. We had been planning our Italian adventure for over a year and during the planning, people kept asking me if he was going to propose and I really had no idea. We weren’t in a rush to get married and I also thought it would be impossible for him to travel out of the country with a ring.
We started our trip in Venice and had an amazing time. When the proposal didn’t happen in Venice, I was convinced that it wasn’t going to happen on our trip. I thought he was acting way too normal to be hiding a ring. On day three we rented a car and drove to Tuscany. Paul told me later that when he woke up that day, he knew he was going to propose when we got to Tuscany. The views on our drive were epic and he said he almost pulled off the road to pop the question, but he waited. When we got to our gorgeous hotel in Chianti we were in awe of how beautiful everything was. That night we grabbed a bottle of wine to watch the sunset and take in the views. We were surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills. At one point I noticed Paul getting nervous and seconds later he pulled out the ring and got down on one knee. I immediately started crying. It was just the two of us and it was an unbelievable moment. I obviously said yes! We spent the next 7 days celebrating all over Italy!
