Stephanie and Matt
How We Met: After living in Africa for the summer, I returned home to South Florida. As life started up again and I went back to work at Lexus, I noticed there was a new guy in the finance department. Matt was not slow to introduce himself. After being gone all summer, he had the impression that I was the new kid on the block and took it upon himself to teach me the ways of the dealership. Little did he know, I had been working there for 4 years prior. I will be honest, his introduction rubbed me the wrong way so I pushed him off every time he would try to make small talk.
Soon enough he broke down a couple walls and said he truly wanted to be my friend. So like any wise woman would, I made him fill out an application. He was a cute guy that looked great in tailored suits, I was not going to say no. In the application I asked what he wanted to be when he grew up (as part of my favorite quote by John Lennon). He passed. He said “happy”. I do not think I had ever smiled quite so big before. It was only a couple of months later that we started dating .
How He Asked: Our relationship has been a significant time of growth for each of us. Spiritually, mentally, emotionally. As individuals and as a couple. We have been through tough times and moments of pure joy. Every step worth it. Knowing we may fall or we may fly, we have not given up. A year later we took a stroll through Miami. In a belated celebration of my birthday, Matt took me to my favorite museum in Miami, The Vizcaya, where my dear friend and photographer Shea Christine was hiding out to capture one of life’s greatest moments.
Before me he said the words, “From the moment I first saw your smile, I knew I couldn’t let you go. When I kissed you for the first time, I knew you were the one for me. I wouldn’t be half the man I am today if it weren’t for you. You inspire me, you challenge me and you have the most amazing heart. You’re more than I deserve and everything I’ve ever prayed for. You’re my best friend. Stephanie Marie Plateroti, will you please marry me?”
There was not a moment of hesitation before I said yes. Yes is confidence. Yes is joy. Yes is right. I could not imagine life without my best friend by my side. My excitement goes beyond words as Matt and I take another step in life’s incredible journey.
