Sophie and Spencer's Engagement in Rose Garden

How We Met

Spencer and I grew up in the same small town, went to the same elementary school, had the same group of friends, and didn’t meet each other until we were both out of high school. Looking back on it now there was so many opportunities growing up we could’ve had to meet one another but we didn’t, until one unforgettable summer. It was the summer of 2013 and my friends convinced me to go on a floating trip as one last get together before we all split ways for college. When I got there I was instantly drawn to the guy who had super long sandy hair and bright blue eyes.

The whole float trip ( three hours might I add ) Spencer and I were attached at the hip, but I was in a relationship so he didn’t act on anything. When I got home from the floating trip he was all I could think about. I knew that there was something magical between us. I ended up ending my previous relationship and a month shortly after that Spencer and I began to date. We’ve been together for three years this September and it’s been one the best adventure I’ve ever gone on.

How He Asked

Spencer and I went on a trip to the Seaside, Oregon with our friends. We rented a cabin and relaxed by the shore. But in typically Seaside fashion, there was fog during most of our trip. We came home that Sunday, August 21st, with a ton of memories and sand in our hair. On the way back Spencer told me that he wanted help carrying something from his grandmas house into his car. I was so tired from the fun weekend and really didn’t want to do it, but I said yes anyway and we made our way to his grandmas house. He led me around the back of his grandmas house and there was perfectly placed roses and a swinging bench in the center of her yard. And that’s when it happened.

He got down on one knee and asked to spend the rest of our lives together! I was in complete shock and was all so happy, so of course I said yes! He mentioned to me after the fact that he wanted to do it all that weekend at the beach but the weather just wasn’t right. After his Grandpa passed away last year I knew of how special of a place it was to do it in his Grandmas rose garden as Spencer has always told me that he wanted a love like his Grandparents had. It was intimate and a beautiful and I will never forget the way I felt in that moment. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!
