How We Met
Drew and I met in college on a Blind date. I was tutoring Drew’s best friend one night and we began talking about his roommate. He wanted me to take him to a sorority date party that was coming up. After a lot of discussion, I decided to take “his roommate” to the date party. I had no idea my life was about to change forever and “his roommate” would turn out to be the man I would fall madly in love with. Drew and I immediately clicked from the minute he stepped out of his car and into my sorority house. We talked all night and even though we were surrounded by friends, we felt like we were the only people in the room. We were inseparable after that. The saying really is true, “Love will happen when you least expect it.” I met his family 3 weeks later and he asked me to be his girlfriend on New Years Eve at midnight while fireworks were going off. I knew my life would never be the same. We quickly began talking about the future and knew we never wanted to be apart. Fast forward 3 years and here we are. I graduate from Graduate School in December and Drew has a wonderful job.
How He Asked
The time was right for me, but he kept telling me I needed to be patient and wait. We are going on a trip to Texas this summer and I was convinced that was when he was going to propose. So, when we went to my family’s house in Birmingham for Easter, a proposal was the last thing on my mind. Drew and I were planning a “Day Date” in the city for Saturday, March 26th. That morning, we woke up and went to visit with my Sister in Law and Niece. We had breakfast with my parents and then went to begin our date. I was completely oblivious to what was going on at my house at this time. We went to various places in the city, took pictures, talked about how good life was right now, and I would bring up the occasional hint about a wedding. He kept telling me to be patient and the time would come when it was right. As we drove home that night, my heart was full. My boyfriend was in Birmingham with my family for Easter, we had an amazing day, and I did not think things could get much better. About 5 miles from the house, Drew began to talk about how we met, our first date, when he fell in love with me, and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I was in tears before I even walked into my house. We drove up and my parents met me in the driveway to take my purse and hug my neck. Drew took my hand, whispered that he loved me in my ear and said “Follow Me.” He walked me through my house and to my backyard that was lit up in lights. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Music was playing in the background as he walked me down the path to a spot covered in flowers. Here, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his Wife. I said “YES” and turned around to see his BOTH of our loved ones there. My family and his had been decorating all day to make this possible. His mom yells, “Show us the beautiful ring.” At that moment, we realized there was no ring yet. I had said yes without a ring. Drew had forgotten the ring inside the house. We laughed and my brother says, “That was your Mulligan Drew, try again!” My mom runs into the house and down the aisle and hands Drew the ring where he gets back on one knee and “Re-Proposes.” It was absolutely perfect. I loved how Drew was so excited and nervous that he forgot the ring. What a wonderful story we have to tell for years to come. After the proposal, we hugged family members who traveled a long way to be with us. We laughed, cried, and enjoyed every minute of that night. We are looking forward to our future full of laughter and happiness. We are so blessed.
