Shay and Omar
How We Met
3 years ago on October 1st, 2016 I walked into Chase Bank and lost my debit card. Omar was the banker who helped me. The day before I remember going into the bank to deposit some money into my account. I was in such a hurry because I had to get to work at 3 pm and it was about 2:50 pm (I know, cutting it close). I was talking with the teller saying how I’d be back tomorrow to get a new debit card because I had no idea where mine went. I didn’t notice anyone in the branch, I just made my deposit and flew to work. The next day, I finished work at around 3 pm and went back to Chase. I went in and sat down and the branch manager approached me and asked what I needed.
Then he turned his arm and said: “Omar will help you with that”. Omar greeted me with his bright smile and took me over to his desk. I honestly felt like time stopped. I had no idea who this man was but I was instantly attracted to him. It made no sense in my head. At that point in my life, I wasn’t looking for a relationship but I couldn’t help myself but wonder what kinda feeling at I had. Well, the next day, he called and asked how my debit card was doing (I’ve lost my card plenty of times, no banker calls) and deep down I was so excited to hear his voice but I played it cool. Then about a month later, I got a job at Chase and the rest is history. Things started slowly between us and we began a relationship as friends, then became best friends. We didn’t rush our relationship because all good things take time and I like it that way. Everything between Omar and I happened that way it was supposed to happen. It wasn’t easy but, I never in my heart doubted that it wasn’t worth it. I can’t wait to marry my best friend!
How He Asked
I had gotten the idea to do a phone shoot for our 2 year anniversary from his partner at work. I told him and he thought it was a great idea! I did all the planning, set up the appointment, picked outfits everything! To my surprise, he actually called Glamour shots and told them his plan to propose. I had no idea. He was very secretive. My entire family knew also. He managed to get help from my oldest sister and planned days to speak with my family which made me so happy when he told me. The day of our shoot, Omar was calm and I was so nervous! I kept thinking how I’m gonna model my face or pose to make sure I look nice or position myself in the right angles. I’ve never done a photo shoot before so I wanted to make it perfect. I got my hair and makeup done and then we changed into our first look. Everyone was in on the surprise but me.
Our photographer started taking our pictures and giving us different angles and poses which was great. Then she told my makeup artist that I needed to be touched up a bit with more lipstick and powder. Again, I didn’t think anything of it. I left the room to go touch up my makeup. Then I came back and my photographer told me to face the wall and I’m like what the hell?! But then she was telling Omar to pose and I heard the camera taking pictures so I said okay this must be normal but it is weird. Then Omar turned me around, I saw a ring and I immediately lost it. I couldn’t believe this was actually happening! He said some of the sweetest things to me and asked me to be his forever. Our photographer was taking pictures of the beautiful moment and my makeup artist got everything on video. The surprise was on me for sure! I cried about 6 times that day. It was the most magical moment of my life.
