Sharlene and TJ
How We Met
Tj and I met on the campus of THEE Southern University of Baton Rouge A&M college in the Fall semester of 2007. I was an incoming freshman and he was a sophomore. He was on the baseball team and I was on the volleyball team at Southern University. All athletes were required to attend study and I ended up sitting by him in the library. We sparked up a conversation and decided to continue to study together because we had the same Biology class. We lost touch as our college years went on, but we’d see each other in passing every now and again. Years later in 2014, my former volleyball teammates and I attended homecoming and I ran into him with his former baseball teammates at the SUBR football game entrance. He texted me that week and we’ve been inseparable ever since then.
How He Asked
Tj and I wanted to visit D.C. before now former President Barack Obama left office. We decided to head Washington, D.C. on January 13, 2017. On their first day there, we toured the city and Georgetown University. We planned to visit the monuments and memorials the following day. The next morning, we woke up to freezing rain and it being super cold outside. We headed out to continue sight-seeing & I was reluctant to go due to the weather little did I know, TJ had a plan of his own. That afternoon, TJ’s cousin. Justin had recently moved to the area and was our tour guide, picked us up and we headed into the city. We toured some of the monuments and headed over to the U.S. Capitol. We stopped to take a picture in front of the U.S. Capitol and while doing so, TJ dropped to one knee & asked me to marry him. I was in total shock and still a year and a half later, I’m still just as elated to be marrying my best friend.
