Shannon and Melendez
How We Met: Steve and I met due to what I like to call “the best worst decision” of my life. One very drunken (and embarrassing) night, my best friend and I decided to accept a ride from the friend of a guy that we had just met that night that was coming to pick him up. When he arrived out front of the bar, I introduced myself and hopped right into the front seat and we immediately hit it off. During the ride home, my friend ended up getting sick all over the backseat of his car (see, I told you embarrassing!) and he told me I had to give him my number to make it up to him. From that moment, I knew that he was special and we’ve been together and in love ever since!
How He Asked: On the night before my birthday, Steve surprised me by taking off of work to take me out. He wouldn’t tell me what we were doing, just that I would want to be dressed nice, so I assumed wewould just be going to meet some friends for dinner in Manhattan, but as we began to drive, I realized that wasn’t where we were going. We pulled up in front of a local bar, the same one that he had met in front of, and he told me to wait so he could let me out. As I got out of the car, I still had no idea what was going on, until he started speaking. He explained that 6 years ago in this very spot we met and that he was ready to start the next part of our lives together. He then got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I was in such shock that I immediately dropped down on my knees to hug and kiss him. At that moment, nothing else mattered and I just wanted to be with him. I didn’t notice the camera man come out from around the corner, the cars honking in the streets, or the cheers coming from within the bar. Once I was finally able to stand up again, he told me there was more and we should go inside. As we walked inside, my favorite band was playing our song, Wonderwall, and all our friends and family were waiting inside, including my parents, who had been at our Florida home for the past 4 months and my younger sister, who was supposed to be away at college. He had managed to get everyone home without me knowing and surprise me with the most perfect proposal. It was my very own fairy tale.
