Wedding Proposal Ideas in Bear Mountain, NY

How We Met

Tyler and I met in high school where we both played the trumpet in the marching band. He was a junior and I was a freshman, and he was my trumpet section leader. We became easy friends from the very first day we met. For a little over a year, we remained really close and would spend a lot of our free time at school with each other. Within that time frame we were both seeing other people, and just thought of each other as good friends that happened to get along very well. Eventually, both of us had become single and we were able to realize how we actually felt for each other. A few weeks later, Tyler asked me to go with him to the homecoming dance. After the dance on October 19, 2008, he dropped me off and walked me to the door, then asked me to be his girlfriend.

How He Asked

We decided we wanted to have a little get away for our ninth anniversary. Currently, one of our favorite activities to do is go on day trips to anywhere within a 5 hour driving distance. Our very first day trip was to Bear Mountain, in the Hudson River Valley in New York. It has a quaint, old inn at the base of the mountain which is located right next to a beautiful lake. There is also a little zoo across the road, with hiking trails scattered throughout. So for our anniversary we thought it would be suiting to stay at Bear Mountain Inn, and drove up the night before our actuall anniversary. On the day of, October 19, 2017, we woke up and drove to the top of the mountain. It was a surprisingly warm day for late October, and was about 75 degrees all day with a cloudless sky. At the top we stood and took in the scenery for a while, and decided we wanted to take some pictures. Tyler had thought to bring a tripod, so we could have some really good pictures with the scenic view in the background. We climbed over to some rocks which were out of the way of the foot traffic, and also had a picture perfect view. We started posing for pictures using the self timer, and had taken around 10. We posed for one more picture, and then Tyler took my hand and got down on one knee. He asked me to marry him, and I said of course! Later, I found out that the final time we posed for a picture, Tyler set the camera to take a picture every 3 seconds until he told it to stop. So the camera was taking pictures of the entire proposal, and we ended up with over 200 beautiful pictures that captured all of the emotions we were experiencing at the top of the mountain!
