Shaira and Ben

Where to Propose in McCormack Trail

How We Met

As I was out for lunch with one of my best friends, we got to talking about our dating lives. At the time I was single and was just not having any luck with guys. As we were talking, the name Ben randomly came to her mind. She said she’s known him since they were little and she thought that we would be a good match for each other. Fast forward to a few days, I got a text from “Ben” and then a couple days after we decided to meet up. This was my first time ever going on a blind date! But of course I trusted my best friends judgement so I figured why not go for it. For our first date, he came knocking on my door and low and behold it was a very pale white ginger at my doorstep. Being a girl who is very tanned, I was quite taken back because I had no idea that he was a ginger! Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just usually not the type of guys I go for! Anyways, as we went on with our date, he took me to a grocery store to pick up some fruit and then we went on a hike. We ended up hiking for 3-4 hours as he got us lost! But the date turned out quite well and it was a great way to get to know him. Fast forward to the next couple of weeks, we continued to go out and get to know each other.

Shaira and Ben's Engagement in McCormack Trail

How He Asked

The morning of June 30, 2017 my sister and I had planned to go on a hike with a couple of our friends. We were to meet up with them at the trail and then go for brunch after wards. As we headed out the door with a hike appropriate outfit as well as brunch appropriate, I had absolutely no idea this was going to happen on that day! It was just a typical hiking day for us so I thought nothing of it! As we got to the trail I kept looking for our two friends and my sister even told me they had sent their location so we were just trying to catch up. Then 10 minutes into our walk, my sister pointed out a piece of paper on the ground and I thought nothing of it. As I started reading it, I knew it was happening. This was happening. The first words that came out of my mouth was “omg he lied to me” (he told me he was at the bank getting some stuff sorted out for work). As I kept walking I saw a few more papers on the ground which were letters from him describing the things he loves about me. The letters led to a path which was filled with rose petals all along the ground leading to a lookout point to a beautiful pond surrounded by trees. At this point I knew what was happening but it wouldn’t quite click. As I got to the lookout, Ben came out of his hiding by the trees and I felt my heart just drop. He approached me and took my hands and started reading his letter to me. I grasped his hands so tightly I think we were both sweating and more so him from being so nervous. Fast forward from all the mushy stuff, he told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his days building a life with me and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course without a doubt I said yes!
