Marriage Proposal Ideas in Whitworth University

How We Met

Jordan and I met my freshman year of college and his sophomore year of college at Whitworth University. I was always in relationships and when I finally was available, he was in a relationship. Everyone around us seemed to know we belonged together except for us (or at least me!). He claims that he was attracted to me the first day I walked down his dorm hallway. My senior year of college there was a time where we both were single and he was living in Sacramento. He texted me one day and said we should date. My initial reaction was that he was a total flirt and completely kidding. Luckily, he’s a pretty good salesman and had me convinced that it would actually be a good idea and so we took the leap!

How He Asked

Jordan proposed to me in front of Warren, the dorm that we met in, at Whitworth University. On March 31st, 2018, he proposed. Jordan had spent the past 3 months planting white lies about his new job at Whitworth, his travels, and slowly getting my closest friends and family in on the plan. He had told me that part of his new position at Whitworth was giving tours. He had me convinced that he had a very important tour coming up and he needed to practice with me, and being an alum, I take any chance to go back to my favorite stomping grounds.

When he asked my parent’s permission, he was traveling for work and told me there was a bad accident and he lost service for about an hour and a half. Any time I might have caught onto the plan, Jordan found a way to throw me off, from having his friend call on speakerphone to solidify their fake plans (really, he was at Whitworth with my family cleaning and getting the site ready), to pretending not to want to do the tour the day of the proposal.

After I expressed that I really did want to do the tour, Jordan agreed he owed me one and we arrived on campus. We made it all the way around campus (fun tour facts and all!) and got to Warren. “This is Warren,” Jordan said. I playfully interrupted, “The place I met the love of my life.”

Shae's Proposal in Whitworth University

“You took the words right out of my mouth,” Jordan replied, and proceeded to tell me how much he loved me. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Little did I know, he had my siblings hiding in hammocks and behind trees to capture the most magical moment of my life, and oh yeah, I SAID YES!

Where to Propose in Whitworth University

From the photographer: Jordan knew that my younger sister, Shae, really wanted their proposal photographed. When he contacted me shortly after Christmas, I was thrilled to be included in such a special moment.

Nothing stays a secret in my family for long, so soon after I found out, other family members wanted in on the action. We decided that the easiest way to be discrete would be to hide in plain site. Thankfully Whitworth University, the proposal location and place they met, is full of older trees and the perfect place to hammock.

We hid two of us in hammocks, and one underneath on a blanket. I took the riskiest position of all and hid behind a large tree further away. As Jordan and Shae approached, I was so nervous and excited, my heart was pounding out of my chest. Thankfully, during our test shots I had adjusted my camera settings to capture very fast movement since I didn’t want to miss a moment. I didn’t anticipate needing the fast shutter speed because I couldn’t keep myself from shaking!

After Shae said yes, we took a tour around campus to capture a few images from this special day. Jordan’s one request — to get a shot of the ring in a pine cone! Every time one fell from the tall trees, you could hear it falling and it’s a Whitworth tradition to try and catch it before it hits the ground. Between shots Jordan was diving back and forth to catch pine cones! Needless to say, I’m sure the ring shot sums up their time at college together.
