Sawina and Kyle
How We Met
I had been dating my first boyfriend (now ex) and was going through rough patches with him. My fiancé was his best friend at the time but was starting to lose touch and was no longer good friends with him. After going through a hard breakup, my fiancé was there for me when I needed to vent and cry to and he’s been there for me ever since! So although we met through an unfortunate time, I have no regrets!
How He Asked
I’ve been with my fiancé for over 8 years now. About 5 years into the relationship, I kept bugging him about getting serious because all of my friends were at the age and either getting married or having kids. It wasn’t an easy topic for him to discuss as he never had plans for it. He kept telling me that it would happen when it happens. The thought made me so crazy to the point I became obsessed. I LOVE everything about weddings and you already know that I was ready for that big day. 3 years later, the thought vanished (although it was still in the back of my mind). Here I was, with the perfect guy, everything in life had come together. I had finally gotten a full-time job of my dreams, he had also gotten a full-time job and was getting promoted. His nephew, the little love of our lives, was born and we were just having so much fun.
We needed a break from our perfect reality so were ecstatic to finally go on our first vacation to Cayo Coco, Cuba (with my family). Arriving on Friday, we started the week off with lots of sunshine, mosquito bites, and pina coladas. It had rained so we were not really enjoying ourselves much. Kyle had asked to go for a walk early Tuesday morning down the beach strip when the sun finally came out. We walked for an hour and when we reached the end of the strip, Kyle nervously wrapped his arms around me and told me he was having the best time of his life and got down on one knee.
Before he could even ask, I said “YES!”. We cried, smiled, laughed, and cried some more. I was so happy/ emotional/ shocked that I actually responded by pushing Kyle away and saying “OMG SHUT UP” before finally saying “YES” to his proposal. Ha! It was so unexpected (no one knew about the proposal at all) but it was the most natural, romantic, proposal ever. The hardest part was waiting until the end of the vacation to tell everyone! It was the best vacation and birthday week for the both of us – one definitely for the books!
