Where to Propose in Lido Key, Florida

How We Met

Zack and I met in college at State College of Florida in Bradenton, Florida in 2010. We met for the first time during a children’s theatre class where he was an actor and I was a Stage Manager. Our first interaction was me getting on to him for always being late for rehearsals! As time went on, I realized I had feelings for this class clown! In February of 2011, we went on our first date to the Florida State Fair. We shared a turkey leg, played a few carnival games, and attended the Elvis Extravaganza concert. Being a huge Elvis fan, this was the real test! Thankfully he willing sat through the whole thing, so he was definitely a keeper!

We dated for the next few months until Zack made it official on June 4th, 2011 when he asked me to be his girlfriend. After a day of pampering, he took me to Lido Key, sang a song he wrote for me, and asked me to be his. Fast forward and we have been together for 6 1/2 years. During those years we have earned our college degrees, traveled the US and beyond, moved our lives thousands of miles from our family and friends, and became parents to three adorable cats! We’ve even jumped out of a plane together! We were each others first love and he was actually my first boyfriend. The last 6 1/2 years has been the adventure of a lifetime and we can’t wait for the next chapter in our lives.

How He Asked

We currently live in Memphis, Tennessee where I work at my dream job, Graceland. Zack selflessly agreed to move here almost two years ago. Who would have thought we would have moved away for another man – Elvis! Since then, we visit Florida as often as possible. Our 6 year anniversary was approaching and Zack decided to take us on a mini vacation home. We spent the afternoon parasailing, which I earned an epic sunburn from.

Already worried about my burn, I added to Zack’s anxiety by being extremely laid back about the evening’s plans – something I never do! Lol. Little did I know, Zack had an evening to remember planned out. So after I lathered myself in aloe, we went out to walk around the shops of St. Armand’s Circle. I looked like a lobster in a dress, but it was our anniversary weekend and we wanted to recreate the night we first started dating. He convinced me to walk out to the beach where he first asked me to be his, a place we went to often to reminisce. As we approached the beach, I immediately heard Elvis’ iconic love song, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” playing.

I then saw a group of people and sparklers. I couldn’t tell who the people were at first, but I did see my Mom and then it hit me, this was it! I was so shocked and overcome with emotion I actually got a bit dizzy! Of course my first reaction was…I look like a lobster!

We walked out to the circle of our friends and family with sparklers in hand as Elvis sang to us in the background. After tears and laughter, he asked me to be his. 6 years later, on the same weekend, on the same beach. It was magical in every way. We will be getting married next summer in the theatre that we met at!
