Sarah and Will

How We Met

Will and I met while we were interning together in Dallas, Texas in the summer of 2015. We were out one night at the beginning of the summer with our intern group (about 20 of us), and one of the girls couldn’t get into the bar because she was too young. Will told us about another bar around the corner that she could get into, and so me, feeling bad she couldn’t get in with the rest of us, went with her to that bar around the corner and left Will and all the other interns behind. A few minutes later, we were greeted by some random guys singing in the middle of the street, with a guitar and everything, asking if they could play for us and telling us they were about the go on tour and what not…it was a little strange, but whatever. I went with it. But then me, having a flare for the dramatic, texted Will, “Help. These guys are just singing to us and won’t leave us alone.” And shortly thereafter, Will is walking down the street thinking that he is coming to rescue me, and at this point, I have actually joined in on the singing and obviously look like I am in need of no “Help” at all (oops). He gives me a hard time for a second before a group of us heads into the bar to have a few beers. He ends up texting me something along the lines of “You’re cute.” from across the table at the bar, and the rest is history. We spent almost everyday of the summer together after that. We met, had our first kiss, started dating, said “I love you” and pretty much realized we were going to spend the rest of our lives together all within a span of about three months. When you know, you know!

After that summer, we spent a year in a 9-hour long-distance relationship while both of us were finishing up our masters degrees (me in Indiana and him in Mississippi). During that time we probably saw each other less than ten times :( It was difficult, but we stuck by each other!

After we both graduated, we both found jobs in the Dallas area and moved back to where it all started! He is a high school football coach (which is a HUGE deal in Texas), and I work in golf for the PGA of America. We are both insanely busy, but make time for each other whenever possible. I love him so much, and I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.

How He Asked

Every year for as long as I can remember, my family takes a week-long family vacation to the beach. As my little brother and I got older, my parents allowed us to invite one friend a piece, and then eventually evolved into us inviting our significant others (if they passed the test!) This summer, Will came on his second family vacation with my parents and I. While on these vacations, we also have the tradition of taking family pictures on the beach in coordinated outfits. A little corny, I know. But it’s the one time of the year we’re usually all together, and the photos always turn out so pretty! So Will joined us for photos on the second day we were at the beach. Typically we take pictures on the last night of vacation, but my parents and Will were strangely anxious to take them earlier… little did I know what was about to happen… I would take pictures of my parents and then Will would take pictures of my parents and I and then my parents would take pictures of Will and I, and so on and so forth. When we got down to the water to take pictures by the ocean, my dad grabbed the camera to take photos of Will and I. I moved down toward the water and turned around to pose and smile for the camera, and Will stopped in front of me, put his hands on my arms and looked me in the eye and said…”Sarah…” and then I just started BAWLING. Suddenly, all at once, I realized IT WAS HAPPENING.

He told me he loved me with all his heart and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Then he got down on one knee and asked those four words every girl dreams of! He jokes that he doesn’t even know if I said yes because I was crying so much. But I stuck my hand out, so he knew what the answer was.

Other people vacationing at the condo were standing on their balconies clapping and cheering for us. And others came up to us on the beach to congratulate us while we were taking photos. Like this guy whose casual sunset fishing trip turned into the most epic proposal photobomb ever. And my dad got to be our proposal photographer and did a GREAT job! It was pretty awesome…and obviously the BEST day of my life.
