Sarah and Todd's Engagement in Ogunquit, ME

How We Met

I first met Todd when I was hired at as a server at a restaurant. I had just graduated from college and was in the midst of looking for a job, when I applied on a whim to this restaurant. I had an interview, got hired and even though it wasn’t my first pick of location (they are all over the state) I still took the job.

I remember it was a Wednesday. I was still in training and being introduced to everyone. When I met Todd, there was something about him that drew me to him. I wanted to get to know him. Over the course of the next few months, we began talking more and more. I remember one day my friend’s brothers band was playing at a local restaurant and I invited Todd to come. He said he would go and asked me for my phone number. I was skeptical about if he would text me or not, and when he did I was so excited. We kept hanging out one-on-one and started to talk regularly and began a friendship that I believe is the reason why we are where we are today.

How He Asked

Todd and I LOVE Ogunquit, Maine. We started vacationing there in 2014 and have gone back annually since then. We didn’t visit in 2017 but knew we’d make our way back there eventually. We had talked about taking a long weekend up in Maine for a while, and since my birthday was around the corner we thought why not go then?

Since the place we usually stay was closed for the season, Todd booked us a hotel across the street from our “spot.” We got in late on Friday night, grabbed a quick bite and checked into the hotel. The next morning, we woke up, got some breakfast and got ready to go site seeing. Our first stop was at the local beach we always go to during the summer. We parked by the footbridge and walked to the beach. When we stepped on the sand, we were taken back by how beautiful the beach looked in the winter with the snow. On our walk, Todd said we should try and find the footbridge that takes us to the beach from where we usually stay. We found the bridge and walked up to the top which overlooked where we stay on one side and the beach on the other. We were booth “oo-ing” and “aah-ing” when Todd suggested I take pictures of how everything looked. I took one picture on each side and when I turned to show him he was down on his knee asking me to marry him. It was the most perfect moment with just the two of us in our favorite place.

We spent the rest of the day exploring parts of Maine we’ve never seen before. We visited the Nubble Lighthouse in York, and drove to Kennebunkport and walked around. We really lucked out as Saturday was beautiful weather wise. Now Ogunquit will hold an even more special place in both of our hearts.
