How We Met
Sam and I met my first night at college at a party. We both were student athletes on the swim team and the party was for all the swimmers to get to know each other. We found each other at the party and stuck around each other, mostly because I was making him drink my beer (not a beer person) and he was so sweet he just went with it. All I really remember was his great smile but I was so homesick that I wasn’t really paying attention. We talked a little the next few weeks at practice, but not much until one day he asked to hang out at none other than the library. Our school was in a very small town so yes, our first “date” was at the library! We would stay up all night talking to the point where we went to practice at 5am with not even a wink of sleep. And like they say, the rest is history!
How He Asked
We stayed together all through college and even a year of distance. After I graduated grad school in May of this year, we planned a trip to Mexico to celebrate! Little did I know we would have so much more to celebrate! We ended up at our resort later than expected and immediately headed down to the beach as it’s my favorite place in the whole world. We then went up to get ready for dinner. He told me that we were going to celebrate me graduating tonight and that I should wear my favorite dress. After dinner we went down for a walk on the beach. At this point it was about 8:30pm and no one was around so it was very peaceful.
With our toes in the sand and our eyes to the sea, he turned to me, told me how much he loved me and how he couldn’t wait another minute even though he wanted this moment to be at sunset, dropped to his knee, and brought out the most gorgeous diamond ring I’d ever seen! Of course I said YES in paradise! It was just me, him, and the ocean and I think that’s what made it so special for me. Afterward he told me he had actually been proposing for months through hidden messages in his instagram posts! He then showed me the pictures and this is where the tears rolled in! How unique and crazy that I had not noticed these messages! I LOVED the idea and he worked so hard on it! Friends and family knew of this and got excited every time he posted a picture to see if their was a message for me! We celebrated the rest of the night and week in paradise, just me and him!
