Sarah and Nick
How We Met
Nick and I met in the summer of 2016. My job had just relocated me to Dallas, TX where I didn’t know many people. A couple of weeks in I started to feel a little lonely since all my friends and family were 2+ hours away and I was so busy with work. I didn’t know how I was going to make any friends in my new city. So, my best friend suggested I join Tinder as a way to meet people. At first I refused, but eventually I gave in and downloaded the app. I know Tinder has gained somewhat of a bad reputation over the last few years, but Nick and I both went into it knowing you get what you advertise for. On July 11, 2016 Nick “super liked” me on the app so I liked him back and a conversation was started. One week later we went on our first date (dinner at Zoe’s Kitchen) and two weeks after that he asked me to be his girlfriend.
How He Asked
Nick asked me to spend forever with him on August 26, 2017. He told me about six weeks before the proposal date that we were going to a gala his company was hosting in Plano, TX to celebrate their 3 year anniversary. He also made sure I had nothing planned for that night because it was “absolutely necessary” that he bring his plus one to the event. I didn’t really think anything of it and I assured him that I would be free and able to go to the gala with him. The morning of August 26 I woke up to thunder, lightning, and lots and lots of rain. Rainy days always make me feel sleepy, so we spent the day at home snuggling on the couch and watching movies. That evening I really didn’t want to leave my comfy spot and go to the event, but I knew Nick was excited about it so I reluctantly got ready and we left. He told me we needed to make one stop at his parents house on our way so he could pick up something, which wasn’t unusual so I didn’t question it. We spent the drive to Plano listening to our favorite songs, talking about our future, and enjoying being together.
Once we got to his parents neighborhood, Nick suddenly pulled the car over a block or 2 from the house. He said their circle drive was full and we would get towed if we parked on the street, which I thought was weird. This was the point where I knew something was going on. As we approached the house, I started to see lights and lots of flowers in the yard. Suddenly, Nick looked back at me and said, “Oh, what is this?” To which I replied, “I don’t know…what is this?”
He then pulled me in and started to tell me how much he loved me and his promises to me for the rest of our lives. The only thing I remember saying the whole time is “Is this real?” Then, Nick asked me to marry him and of course I said “YES!”
Nick planned the most perfect proposal I could have ever imagined without me catching on at all! Afterwards, we had an engagement party with all of our friends and family! It was the best day ever.
