Sarah and Joey
How We Met
It was the beginning of our senior year of high school, in August of 2009, when my group of friends invited Joey to the movies with us. I had never met him before, although almost 10 years prior I actually was a cheerleader for the football team he played for! We went out for food and then to the movies, and I really felt an attraction to him. The following week at school, we passed each other in the hallway a couple of times and throughout the next few weeks, he came to our hang outs more often. In September he asked me for my number, and in October we became each other’s homecoming dates, although that was unplanned. Our group of friends all got together prior to homecoming to take pictures and go to dinner, and I came single and so did he. Of course everyone else was paired off, so that left us together. That night really was the biggest blessing to me. At the dance, when “1, 2, 3, 4” by Plain White T’s he asked me to dance with him. I was so happy when I left that night. One week later, on October 21, 2009, Joey asked me to be his girlfriend.
How He Asked
On July 3rd, 2015, our town, Kennesaw, was doing a fireworks show. We went to dinner with some friends but ended up being at dinner a little longer than anticipated. By the time we left the restaurant, it was too late to go to the fireworks show. So Joey and I got in our car, and our friends got in their car, and we decided to just go back to our friends’ house. On the way there, we passed the college we both attended- Kennesaw State University. I told Joey that we might be able to watch the fireworks from campus because the show was still going on. We parked our car and walked towards the campus green. By the time we got there, the show was over. As we were walking back to the car, I said to Joey “I am really sorry we missed the finale”. Joey quickly responded with “Well, there is still time for one more finale” and gave me a kiss. He then preceded to tell me how much he loves me and then got down on his knee. I thought he was kidding up until he pulled a ring out of his pocket and said “Sarah, will you marry me?” I started bawling instantly.
A year later, we did our engagement photos on Kennesaw State’s campus- it just felt like the perfect place to have them!
We are getting married, in our hometown of Kennesaw, on December 16, 2017!
