Sarah and Alex
How We Met
Alex and I probably met when we were kids, we just don’t remember it. Our grandmas were best friends and our grandpas coached t-ball together. My uncle and Alex’s dad played for their team and my mom grew up hanging out with Alex’s aunts. My grandma even tells the story of how my mom and Alex’s mom ran into each other at one of their ultrasounds. I guess it was just meant to be.
Fast forward 14 years to our first date. It was the summer before we started high school and we decided to go see a movie together. I remember seeing him for the first time and thinking, “Wow, he’s cute.” I had only had one other boyfriend so I wasn’t expecting anything to come of the date; I was wrong. Ever since then we’ve been attached at the hip.
How He Asked
It was the best day of my life and I’d do anything to experience it all over again. Alex and I, along with his family, had a weekend trip planned to Turkey Run State Park for almost three months. I am a nursing major at Ball State University and Alex started working full time after he graduated from trade school in 2016 so the weekends are our only chance to do anything fun. We were so excited about this trip because it would finally give us a chance to relax. Turkey Run is one of my favorite places to go; it is something you’d never expect to find in Indiana. We planned on spending the entire weekend hiking and making s’mores around the campfire.
I woke up Saturday morning, put on my hiking clothes, and went on a short hike with Alex and my puppy Lola. We got back from the hike and Alex’s mom said we were going to eat lunch and then go take some Christmas photos by Turkey Run Inn. I put on a casual outfit and did my hair and makeup. During the school year I am not allowed to paint my nails because I have clinical in the hospital. Two days before, I had my last clinical day so I was now allowed to have my nails done.
Alex’s sister conveniently brought nail polish with her, so I painted my nails just because I could. We headed to the Inn and Alex took me down to my favorite trail. We walked around for a while and then Alex said, “You know I’ve been wanting to do this forever.” He got down on one knee and finally asked me to be his wife! My entire family walked down to where he proposed and Alex hired my favorite photographer to capture the whole thing!
Alex was my first love and only love and I can’t wait to spend forever with him.
