Sara and Charles
How We Met
About six years ago, I went to visit a friend who worked at a golf course. Charlie happened to work at that same golf course, so we were introduced to each other. That evening, we became Facebook friends, but that was the only contact we had for months. After those few months, I got a message from Charlie suggesting we get together. Later that week, he drove all the way up to Baltimore to visit me and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
How He Asked
Charlie and I had been dating for five years. After we graduated from college, I got a job teaching in Baltimore while Charlie moved back home to Southern Maryland for work. The year before getting engaged we were living two hours apart. We both made a commitment to make the trip every weekend to be with each other, but to say it was difficult is an understatement. Charlie came up to visit me the first weekend in May. Nothing seemed unusual, we were both just excited to be with each other again. Early Saturday morning, Charlie loaded up our bikes into the truck and we left for the reservoir, which is where we went on our first date and many times after. Once we arrived, Charlie seemed preoccupied, but I chalked it up to his stressful job. That was until I went to get something out of the truck. When I turned back around Charlie was right behind me. He told me that today wasn’t just about taking a bike ride, but starting our lives together. As he confessed his love for me, he lowered himself down on to one knee and asked me to be his wife. Through tears and laughter, I said yes. Once we collected ourselves, we did go on that bike ride and after about a mile we stopped at the top of a bridge over the reservoir. Charlie pulled me close and told me this is exactly the spot where he knew he loved me five years ago.
