Samantha and Tony

How We Met

Tony and I first met almost ten years ago, we met through some mutual friends and would say a friendly hello when we saw one another. For several years we would have friendly conversations via Facebook but by no fault of Tony’s anytime he asked me out I kindly declined. This continued for many years, we both had our own lives and pretty much only had a connection through social media. Finally after many years of no success Tony decided he would give it one more try. He messaged me asking me if I would be interested in playing in a coed slowpitch softball tournament with him the following weekend. That question got me to bite. I’m not sure what it was about that question but him and I talked for the rest of the night about what to expect with this upcoming tournament. I proceeded to message a mutual friend of ours about Tony to get her view of him because my opinions I concluded from her were only from social media. Now mind you tony and I are still continuing to talk strictly softball and were making arrangements for us to get together to prepare for the upcoming tournament. My friend insisted I go with tony and keep an open mind to anything that could transpire from this arrangement for playing on his softball team. What was originally planned to be a preparation for the upcoming tournament, turned into a first day at the movies.

I was never so nervous for a date than I was that night. I didn’t know what to expect but I came to that date with an open mind. I allowed him to pick the movie, which he chose a scary movie, which I hate but I agreed to join him even though I would have my eye closed the whole time. That night was one of those nights I will never forget. I went from nervous to instant comfort. Tony and I talked the whole time until the movie started, and it was instant comfort for me, I felt safe, something I never felt before. There was nothing specific that I can put my finger on but that whole night just felt perfect. Something so simple but I felt like him and I had been so close for so long, it was an instant connection. That perfect night ended in our first kiss.

That first date led to a summer where we were always together. Between softball games, movie dates, and late night drives. That summer was perfect. Tony and I knew in a very short period of time this was a relationship that we were meant to be in. So on the 3rd day of July, 2016 under a sky full of fireworks By the end of the second week of him and I seeing each other we both were so in love. I have never experienced something so true and so pure right away. Tony made me laugh and smile in a way that I had never experienced before, he is the most kind hearted and loving man, it was impossible to not fall head over heels in love with him. Tony asked me if I would like to be his girlfriend. I was so happy that summer was filled with so much laughter, and fun I knew I had found my best friend. By the end of that summer we had began talking about us spending our lives together. Everything about our relationship felt right from the beginning, so why wouldn’t we want to spend the rest of our lives together.

How He Asked

I never thought in a million years that this would happen so quickly but in the matter of 4 months, Tony and I were planning our future. He and I talked a lot about the possibility of an upcoming deployment for him but we knew there was nothing in the world our relationship couldn’t handle so we decided why wait, why wait to get engaged if this is truly how our lives are meant to be. So Tony and I begin looking at engagement rings. After 4 months of us being together Tony and I picked out the perfect ring together. He was originally planning on proposing at my college graduation but, unfortunately I tend to ruin surprises, so he had to make some alterations to his surprise proposal.

It was Thanksgiving day, we spent the morning with his family, but then left to go to my grandparents for that meal. It was such a nice day spent with family and a close friend. It was even better because we got to spend it together. I got up to go to the kitchen and tony asked me to go with him. SO I followed him down the hall way, he wanted me to follow him outside, but I was stubborn and told him to wait so I could use the restroom first. Apparently Tony couldn’t wait any longer to ask me because the moment I walked out the bathroom door I saw him down on one knee. I don’t even remember the words he said other than will you marry me? No, this was not the fairytale proposal you see in the movies. But this quirky little thing he did was perfect. This was us. Our relationship is so different and so out of the ordinary this was perfect to me. But my tears rolling down my face and my shock I kept saying no no n no no no, of course yes I’ll marry you but no no no no . I was just in awe that I was getting to marry my best friend. I am so thankful for tony and what we have together. Life would not be the same without him by my side and I’m so thankful for our crazy life, and engagement and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Special Thanks
