Samantha and Eric

How We Met

We were set up in 2011 by my mom’s best friend, who is also his mom’s cousin’s wife. I was 20 and had to use a fake ID to get into a bar at 5 pm on a Wednesday. We had one drink, I never answered his text, and we didn’t speak again. 2 years later she called me again and said she’d had dinner with Eric and she really thought we’d be good together- would I give him another shot? I reluctantly agreed and we went to dinner on our second first date. I was a total jerk, texting under the table and drinking too much but he wasn’t deterred. I couldn’t believe he wanted to go out with me again because I was so unpleasant!  But he did, and on the next date, I realized how smart and funny he was. We’ve been together ever since.

How He Asked

On a Thursday I arrived home (after a blowout my sister “won in a raffle”) to an empty apartment filled with rose petals and a sign that said, “look at banner Sam.” I walked out back to see a banner and our 3 rescue pups dressed in adorable tees (with amazingly awful puns like “I’m pawsitive you’re the one,” “let’s be together forever,” and will you marry our dad), rose petals and candles, my best friends, my sisters, and this man all waiting for me.

He asked me to marry him and I said YES! He then brought me to a bar filled with the rest of our best friends and families. He could not have surprised me more or done things more perfectly if I had planned it myself (apparently I’m difficult to surprise??) I couldn’t believe how wonderfully he pulled off this amazing surprise, and I’m so glad our sweet girls got to be a part of it since they’re such a big part of our lives and relationship. I can’t wait to make our little family official.
