Samantha and Eric
How We Met
Eric and I met on the first day of 5th grade. Our last names both start with A, so our lockers were placed right next to each other and we were placed in the same homeroom class. We instantly became inseparable. While at school, we were always seen together. Cell phones weren’t a thing back then yet, so we called each other on our home phones almost every night after school. (This was a very nerve-racking experience, having to talk to his parents to ask for Eric and all ;) That summer after fifth grade, we still remained inseparable and hung out whenever we could and of course talking on AIM way too often. We started to grow apart in 6th grade, but still remained friends throughout the rest of middle school. After our freshman year of high school, I transferred to a private school and we lost touch completely. Even after losing touch, he still crossed my mind every so often. Fast forward to February 2015, our parents ran into each other at the airport and my mom came home rambling about how wonderful his parents were and told me that I should reach out to him and see how he is. After some thought, I did some social media creeping and learned that he had a girlfriend. I chose not to reach out to him :). November rolls around, Eric texts me out of nowhere asking me how school was! I was so shocked, we talked through the night and he asked me out on a date while we were home on Thanksgiving break. After that first date, the rest was history! Here is our sad attempt at a digital camera selfie circa 2011.
How He Asked
Eric and I have been talking about engagement for a while, we knew we wanted to get engaged after we had both graduated from college. I did not realize it would be less than 24 hours after he graduated! Eric had just walked across the stage for his diploma the night before and we were having a little graduation party for him with both of our families the day after. While everyone was eating, Eric’s dad was said a little toast and thanked everyone for coming. His dad then called me up to come stand next to him. He thanked me for all I had done for Eric and then handed it over to Eric. Eric said his thank you’s and then said a special thank you to me. Everyone started getting their phones out when Eric stood up, so I was thinking oh gosh it’s coming. I started tearing up while Eric was thanking me. Eric ended his speech with how he couldn’t wait to start the next part of our lives together but he still needed to ask me one question and got down on one knee in front of both of our families and asked me to marry him.
We are both big family people, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal.
