Sabrina and Mos' Proposal at the NYC Marathon

How we met: Mos and I met in London while I was a graduate student working towards my Masters in Public Policy and he was a born and raised Londoner working in financial consultancy. We actually found each other (well he found me) on an online dating website after he sent me a message about Breaking Bad because he noticed I listed it as one of my favorite shows on my profile. After a week of non-stop texting we had our first date on December 8, 2012 at a cocktail bar called Milk and Honey. The rest is history!

We were pretty much inseparable for the rest of my time in London, however, we knew our time was limited because I would have to return back to the US after my student visa expired in September of 2013. In order to be together, Mos made the huge decision to request to be relocated to the NYC office of his company. The plan was for me to move to get a job in NYC with him once his work visa was approved. It ended up taking a lot longer than we anticipated and we had to continue our relationship long distance for 6 months, but finally in March 2014 he arrived in NYC!

How he asked: Earlier this year, we lost my brother to a long and hard battle with cancer. It’s been a very difficult time for me and I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have Mos as my rock. I am so grateful that not only did Mos get the chance to meet my big brother before he passed but that they absolutely adored each other.

It was Mos’s idea to run the NYC marathon because he wanted to find his own way of honoring my brother’s memory by raising money for cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. In order to show our support for him, I invited all my friends to join me in cheering him on from various locations along the course.

I devised a plan where I would first head down to Brooklyn to see him there then head up to the Upper East Side and cheer him on from there, finally ending in Central Park where I would wait with all of our friends for him to cross the finish line.

We waited for a while for him to get to the family reunion area where we planned to meet but when I finally saw him walking towards us, I ran to greet him with a big hug and kiss. He then whispered in my ear that it was the most amazing day and that he wanted to put the icing on the cake and in front of our friends he kneeled down and asked me to marry him.

He says that knowing he was going to propose to me at the end of the race gave him the motivation to keep going. He even ran the entire time with the ring with him!
