Danny & Kirstin's Romantic Proposal in Paris

How We Met – as written by Kirstin: Danny and Kirstin met in early September 2009, when each of them were with their friends for a night out on the town. When Kirstin saw Danny from across the bar, something had hit her like a ton of bricks. She was filled with an indescribable feeling which must have been love at first sight. She knew she had to meet this guy.

And so, she walked right up to him and introduced herself. They immediately hit it off but sadly the night was coming to an end and as Danny said goodbye and turned to walk away, Kirstin grabbed him and said “Hey, aren’t you going to ask for my number?”. He did, and the two of them have been together ever since.

Now fast forward to March 2014, when Danny was asked to play ball hockey for a team in Belp, Switzerland for 11 weeks. Danny signed his contract and the two of them headed to Europe together. Danny couldn’t have been more excited to play the game he loves for three months, let alone across the ocean, and Kirstin couldn’t have been happier to cheer him on. Two weeks before Danny’s contract was finished, the team was given a few days off to rest up for the finals, so the couple quickly booked a trip to Paris, France as the Eiffel Tower was a must-see for Kirstin. And here is where the next step of their love story began..

How He Asked: She had always dreamed of going to Paris. She had often thought about sitting in a café on a quaint side street, watching the hustle and bustle of the busy, yet beautiful, city. She had wondered what she would pack for a picnic on the grass, beneath the Eiffel Tower. She had always imagined attaching a lock to Pont des Arts with the love of her life.

He had never really thought about Paris. But that didn’t matter; he made her dreams, his dreams. That was one of the many qualities that made him perfect in her eyes.

It was a Wednesday. A Wednesday filled with rain showers and sunshine. A Wednesday spent wandering aimlessly around the city of love. She took him to the Love Lock Bridge, where they found the perfect spot to place their lock. They each held a key in one hand, locked their fingers, as if to make a promise to each other. She made her wish, he made his, and they threw the keys into the Seine River.

In the early evening, they headed towards the Eiffel Tower, but not before stopping at Ladurée, a luxurious macaron shop. She wasn’t able to choose just one so she chose two; Lemon and Marie-Antoinette. His choice was Vanilla.

He took her for dinner at La Fontaine de Mars, a restaurant just a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. They shared a bottle of wine and enjoyed their meals. After their last glass of red, they made their way to a plot of land beneath the most famous landmark in the city. He laid out a blanket for the two of them to rest on. They lay on their backs, looking up at the dimly lit Eiffel Tower. He kissed her, and told her he loved her.

It was a Wednesday, around ten o’clock, only minutes after the light show had begun. He asked her if she would remember this night for the rest of her life, she had said of course. He told her that that answer would make his next question easier to ask.

He pulled her up off the blanket, got down on one knee and asked her if she would do him the honour of marrying him. With tears of happiness running down her warm cheeks, she threw herself onto him and they landed in an embrace, she cried and shouted ‘yes!’. She kissed him and told him she loved him.
