How We Met

Robbie and I first “met” each other in the summer of 2012. At the time, he was dating a friend of mine from high school. We hadn’t been introduced in person just yet, but we had started following each other on social media because of this mutual friend. Fast forward to April 2013 and Robbie and I began commenting on each other’s Instagram every now and again. He was unlike any guy I had every met, let alone dated, so I was intrigued to say the least. We then connected on FB and start messaging one another. He asked for my phone number and the first time he texted me he said, “Hey, wanna FaceTime?” I had just gotten back from the gym and looked like a mess, but for some reason I said yes. He then began to call or Facetime me every night for a month. He would text me goodnight and good morning, and started sending me poems that he had written about me. Soon after, he flew to Las Vegas {my hometown, at the time he was going to school in northern California} so we could finally meet in person. He had planned 6 days for us to hang out. On the third day he asked me to be his girlfriend, and on the 6th day, when I dropped him off at the airport, he told me loved me. Some people may think that’s too fast but he is proud of it to this day and stands by the fact that he knew that quickly. I wasn’t long after that I knew we would one day get married. Seven months later, he proposed and the best decision I’ve ever made was saying yes! We’ve now been together 2.5 years and married 1.5 years. We’ve never been happier and I’m so glad this love came into my life when I was least expecting it.

How He Asked

Let’s start on Friday December 6th, 2013, my birthday. I had a fantastic day! It was spent with family and friends. I went to lunch with girlfriends. Robbie took me to my favorite sushi place for dinner and surprised me with fourth row tickets to see The Forgotten Carols, my most favorite Christmas musical. After, we went to my brother’s house for homemade cake and presents. I was 22 and so happy. I was also so sure Robbie was going to propose that night.

He didn’t. And I cried. I knew he was waiting for the perfect moment to surprise me. And as magical as my birthday was, it didn’t happen. Being typical Robbie, he told me he couldn’t propose when I was expecting it. He wanted it to be a total surprise and when I was least expecting it. {But my birthday! I thought it was perfect timing!}

The next day, Saturday, was spent cleaning and doing homework. Let’s just say I wasn’t in the best of moods all day. I had work at J. Crew from 4-8pm. Robbie dropped me off and told me we would go see the new Disney-Pixar movie ‘Frozen’ after work. After dropping me off, he went home to Murray to get something at the Apple Store. I thought nothing of it. Little did I know he was actually preparing everything for his planned proposal on Sunday. That’s right, Sunday. But as he was getting everything ready, he just decided to do it that night. Knowing how sad I was that it didn’t happen on my birthday and i just wanted us to be official already, he called an audible and started setting up that very night. When Robbie picked me up from work, he told me his parents also wanted to see the movie, so instead of going back down to Provo to see it, we were just going back up to Murray.

Well it was basically a blizzard all day long, driving conditions were SO bad. I obviously didn’t know when he was going to propose. But when he said we were going to see a movie, I figured that night was shot for the proposal. We pulled into his driveway and walked into the house. and then Robbie said, “Let’s go outside.” HELLO. BLIZZARD STATUS!?  He led me around the driveway…and that’s when I first realized what was going on. He had made a pathway of luminaries leading down to this secluded back driveway area behind his parent’s house. I just looked at him {with a shocked face I’m sure} and smiled. He led me down the soft, glowing path and we turned the corner towards the back garage. It was the exact spot where we had first talked about getting married months ago when we first started dating. Robbie had set up a board with white Christmas lights poked through that said “MARRY ME.” He also had a table set with a pink Christmas tree, pink balloons, and Martinelli’s. It was lightly snowing perfect little snowflake flurries at that point and everything just looked so picturesque. It was at night so it was totally silent and it felt like we were in a snow globe with the big fluffy snowflakes falling all around us. {But yes, it was freezing}

Robbie led me to the chairs he set up and sat me down. He read me the sweetest poem he’s ever written me {which he had been writing for months}. I cried. And giggled from being so giddy. And cried some more. He then got down on one knee in the snow, said some of the most sincere words I’ve ever heard him say, and pulled out my ring. I of course said yes, and his sister came around the corner and started snapping pictures.

We couldn’t be happier! Our date was set for May 10th, 2014 in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple. I cannot wait to spend the rest of eternity with this boy. He makes me so happy.
