Rita and Krshna
How We Met
Krshna and I have known each other for over a decade and we were friends for a long time before we began dating. I think that’s what makes our relationship so amazing-he is really my best friend! On New Years in 2008, Krshna started to view me as more than just a friend and after some convincing, I agreed to give it a chance!! Needless to say, the rest of it is history! We have primarily had a long distance relationship with Krshna being in medschool and me working as pharmacist. This journey has been long and has truly tested us. What keeps us going everyday is our real love for one another, always remembering to have fun and laugh together, and supporting each other through good and bad times. I cannot be more excited to finally spend the rest of my life with Krshna.
How He Asked
I cant even begin to describe in words the shock and happiness I felt when I realized what was happening. Most of my family and friends know that Krshna is not much of a planner but this proposal took planning to another level! Krshna and I are both originally from Maryland but he lives in Chicago completing his medical school rotations and I work in Philadelphia. We try to see each other as often as we can but the distance makes it hard. Krshna and I had just spent an amazing week together and on the morning of Sunday July 10, I dropped him off at the Philadelphia airport so he could catch a flight back to Chicago. I definitely did not expect to see him for a long time! He waited for me to drive away, took a Uber to the train station and took the train from Philadelphia to DC.
Earlier in the month, I had made plans with my family to celebrate my brother getting a new job by going to a fancy dinner in Washington D.C. After I dropped Krshna off, my brother, sister-in-law, and their 5-year old triplets came to pick me up from Philadelphia and we drove to DC. On the way, the “restaurant” (aka Krshna) called to say our reservation was pushed from 8 PM to 9 PM. In order to kill some time, my brother suggested going to the Kennedy Center to take some pictures. As we proceeded to the rooftop, I was thinking to myself “what a gorgeous day.” And just as I looked up, I saw a man’s back facing me and I thought, “Wow that really looks like Krshna”.
At what seems like that exact moment, he turned around. I was in complete shock and I proceeded towards him.
As I got closer and closer, I saw candles and began to cry.
I think it was a combination of the perfect sunset, the perfect surprise, and the perfect man standing in front of me.
He took my hands and began to say the sweetest words I will never forget.
He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
I couldn’t say Yes any faster!!
After we hugged, I turned around and saw my parents, Krshna’s parents, our siblings and best friends.
I was so thrilled to share my happiness with most important people in our lives.
Krshna couldn’t have done a better job in making this day truly the best day of my life.
He took so much time and attention in so many details from coordinating with my family and friends so they could be there to share this special day with me to emailing my boss to take off for me to even matching his socks to my dress!
I’ll never forget the moment I said yes and I knew it was the beginning of our happily ever after.
