How We Met

We met online. Facebook had recommended we be friends based on mutual friends. After taking a look at the cute guy in the profile picture, I decided, “yes,  I will be friends with cute boy”. I friend requested him, he accepted and nothing really happened after that. About 6 months later, on Plenty of Fish, I was scrolling through my messages (yes, scrolling, sooo many messages), a familiar face caught my eye. That’s cute guy from Facebook! So I responded and we talked for a few days before meeting for dinner and drinks that weekend. At dinner we hit it off immediately. Countless dates and many travel adventures later; here we are, a year and a half later planning a getaway relaxation trip to La Jolla, CA.

How He Asked

We had been wanting to do a sunset dinner on the beach for awhile and it was perfect because La Jolla has always been our beach weekend spot from the beginning and La Jolla Shores Hotel offered such a thing. Come the day, a huge, random storm takes over California that weekend, which is unheard of in May. It was on the verge of raining, super windy and cold. Within minutes of sitting down at our table, he hands me this present. Inside was a beautiful, custom made wooden box, with a glass “M” on top he had my dad make. My dad does custom glass and this was how he asked my dad for his permission, which was very special to my dad as I am his only girl.

Inside the box was the most beautiful ring I have ever seen that he had custom made. Before I knew it, he was on one knee asking the very question I always hoped I would hear from him. Of course I said yes! We immediately sent our fancy meal to our room and enjoyed it in the warmth of our hotel. Luckily, we booked a beach front room, so we still had a wonderful view of the ocean.
