Rebecca and Nathan
How We Met
Nathan and I met when we were in high school. We did not attend the same school, but had one mutual friend. This friend was desperately trying to set us up, although neither of us were interested. Finally one day, I coincidentally saw Nathan (for the first time) from a distance while driving with the same friend. She insisted that I text him since it was his birthday. I stated that it was extremely weird to text him a happy birthday message when neither of us had ever met. But seeing how good-looking he was, decided to do so anyways (against my better judgement)! Funny how coincidences become fate… We have been inseparable ever since that first text message.
How He Asked
Nathan and I were on a ski trip in Lake Louise with our closest friends one weekend. I was completely oblivious to any idea of an engagement! I simply thought it would be a fun weekend filled with laughter and good mountain-top conversation!
While just the two of us were on our favourite ski-run, Nathan suggested that we stop at a pretty spot in the trees just to relax. I, being completely oblivious, agreed! We took our ski equipment off and walked into a small clearing within the trees. It was beautiful. The sun was peeking through the crisp, white trees as snow sprinkled down all around us. I was in amazement, looking at the beauty that surrounded us on that mountain-top. Suddenly I was very aware that Nathan was standing in front of me, simply watching me. I tilted my head to one side, smiling slightly and asked “What..?” I still had no idea what was going on. He took both my hands in his and started to get down on one knee. I was so confused, but my heart started pounding. I could feel my rosy cheeks darken as my jaw dropped slightly. “Babe, what are you doing..?” I asked, as my hands started to shake. He smiled, knowing I was in complete shock. Then the simply beautiful words that I will never forget came through his lips: “Rebecca, I love you with all my heart. Will you marry me?” He reached into his pocket, pulled out a small, purple box and opened it. My hands flew to my mouth. Tears poured out of my eyes, my knees began to shake. The ring was sparkling brilliantly in the snowy sunlight, but all I could focus on was the even more brilliant sparkle of Nathan’s eyes. I tackled him over with a huge hug, bawling into his shoulder. Then I heard his voice again “Becca I’m not getting up until you say yes!” I laughed through my happy tears while saying “YES! Of course yes!” Nathan slipped the ring onto my finger as I shrieked in joy. It was more perfect than I could have ever imagined.
