Rebecca and Levi

How We Met

Levi is an absolute dream come true. He is everything I could have ever wanted in a man and more. I often prayed for my future husband as a little girl, but only God knew exactly who He had in store for me. Levi is my best friend and will always be. He makes me the best version of myself. He is my life partner and my teammate. We rely on each other for everything. We met in the sixth grade through some mutual friends. We made an instant connection and quickly became friends. Within a few weeks, we both knew we liked each other, but as shy sixth graders, we wouldn’t dare tell each other how we felt. After the journey of passing notes and secretly telling our friends how we felt, our relationship began after a simple note that read, “Do you want to be my girlfriend?” 7 and a half years ago, I decided to say yes.

I decided to say yes to a boy I barely knew in our sixth grade math class. I said yes to getting to know him more and to seeing where our friendship would lead us. 7 and a half years ago I officially became Levi’s girlfriend. Only God knew the plans He had for our future. A few years went by and we both realized that our relationship was so much more than just a middle school fling. We had a lot to learn but we both knew that we wanted to be together. 5 years ago, Levi gave me a promise ring ensuring me that he would replace it with an engagement ring one day. We made a promise that we have continued to keep. A promise to remain loyal and to love each other through all the ups and downs that life may throw at us. A promise of commitment to our relationship. A promise for a future together. Four years of high school went by and our love only continued to grow stronger. We were inseparable. Those were some of the best years of our lives.

We made so many wonderful memories together. But we both knew there was more to our future than just high school sweethearts. With college just around the corner, many hard decisions had to be made and goodbyes had to be said. We both headed off to college, which is when our inseparable partnership became an 800-mile-long distance relationship. Life has truly put us through some of the worst and best situations possible. But through it all, we have endured. Through it all, our love has only continued to grow. We have learned more about each other and about ourselves in this past year than we ever knew possible. We have become so much stronger as a couple. I have always known that Levi was the one since the very first day I met him. My love for Levi continues to grow every single day.

How He Asked

Levi received the answer to many prayers after finding out that he had received a congressional internship in Washington D.C. for three weeks. He was given this news at the beginning of this year. We both have always loved D.C. since the first time we visited. We were both so excited for this opportunity for him. In a heartbeat, we decided that I would come out and visit him for a weekend while he was in D.C. I had been looking forward to this trip for months, knowing that I would get to spend a few days in our favorite city with my favorite person. As time grew closer to this trip, our excitement only grew more and more. Little did I know, Levi had much bigger plans than I ever imagined. So here is a little bit of background leading up to the special moment. I arrived in Washington D.C. late Friday night. After dropping our stuff off at our fancy hotel (Levi had secretly picked for us), we spent the rest of the evening on a night tour.

Although it rained the entire time, it was still so wonderful. The monuments were all so beautiful and there is just something special about walking hand in hand with the love of my life around Washington D.C. at night. We woke up early the next day, knowing that we wanted to do as much touring as we could. We spent the majority of the day touring and enjoying our time together. After we decided we had seen everything on our list, we jumped on the metro back to our hotel to get all dressed up for a nice dinner. I didn’t expect much out of the rest of the evening, except to get some nice pictures and walk around the Mall for my final night in D.C., however, Levi had different plans. We left the hotel and grabbed a ride to an extremely fancy restaurant. Levi kept ordering this expensive food and treating me with so much love and kindness.

We ate so much food we both could barely move. Levi kept acting sort of on edge but I just assumed he wasn’t feeling well. After such an amazing dinner with incredible service, Levi looked at his watch and decided it was time to go. I honestly had no idea what was about to happen next. We grabbed a ride to the Lincoln Memorial and started to walk around. I wanted to get my camera out to take pictures, but he kept insisting that we just enjoy the evening together. We both had never seen the memorial so busy before, there were people all around. We started to walk up the steps of the memorial, but once we reached the second tier, Levi asked me to stop. We turned and just completely took in the beautiful view.

Levi pulled me close, held my hands, and started to speak the sweetest words I had ever heard. He told me how much he loves D.C. and the view. He told me how beautiful I looked and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. With both of our hearts racing and our eyes on the verge of tears, Levi got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. And of course I said yes!

He placed the beautiful ring on my finger and I immediately jumped in his arms. The crowd erupted in cheers. With my mind spinning in circles, I look up only to find such a sweet surprise. Both of our families surrounded us. Levi had flown them out to D.C. for this very special moment.

I was absolutely speechless. Levi had planned every single detail out flawlessly. Tears of joy filled my eyes. The moment I had been waiting for my whole life had finally happened. And it was absolutely perfect. I’ve never been happier in my entire life. I am so blessed that I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.
