Rebecca and Cody
How We Met
Cody and I met through a mutual friend in the summer of 2016. We went on a casual date to a central Wisconsin brewery and *BAM* our lives would never be the same. We were inseparable from that day on. Boating, hiking and weekend trips, love hit hard and fast.
It didn’t take long for us to realize we were with the person we both had been searching for. It really sunk in when Cody was willing and excited to help with something that was near and dear to my heart, Special Olympics. Many weekends throughout the year we are traveling for a tournament or just spending time with the athletes. He has never blinked an eye and the athletes adore him!
Life has its ups and downs but we truely believe together, nothing is impossible. We work every day to keep our hearts open to helping others and being there for each other. Our sweet little family is only just beginning and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
How He Asked
Jan. 20, 2018. My birthday. The day we got engaged. BEST DAY EVER.
We had to wake up at 6 a.m. That Saturday to get to a Special Olympics basketball tournament. I am a news anchor and work until 11 p.m. So getting up before the sun is never fun for me. I already knew it was going to be a great day because it was my birthday and the athletes were thrilled to play in their first games of the season. We walked into the gym and it was right to work for me. Warming everyone up and taking those jitters away. They played and won in a close game. Throughout the game I saw some friends come and go. I waved and thought how nice it was they came to watch our team. I also noticed someone from the news station I work at was there with a camera. I was very confused but figured they were doing a story about the tournament. Once we collected all of our things from the bench the athletes led me to a quieter area, they wanted to sing happy birthday. Then slowly, more and more friends started appearing. The camera was on me and I turned to look at Cody and saw the box in his hand. If that wasn’t enough, Out of the corner of my eye I was my parents walk up. (They live 10 hours away and drove all that way for the proposal. I had no idea they were in town.) I burst into tears while Cody got down on one knee in front of our friends, our parents and the special olympics athletes that mean so much to me. Everyone cheered, especially my basketball team! The love and joy we all shared in that moment will be engrained into my mind forever.
